I have a 10 inch wheel and I can fit a 315. 275 easily fits on a 8.5 inch wheel.

I did have to roll my rear fenders, due to the +23 off set of the rear tires. When I accelerated hard in first gear they would rub. Just a tiny bit...but they did rub. I rolled them myself

I know a guy with 275-40-17s on an 8" wide wheel (looks bulged out, but it works) so I think you'd be fine with them on an 8.5" wheel (though the shorter sidewall means the comparison is not direct). I believe they would go on there though.

I bought them at a local place that probley charged me to much. They were $179 each and they fit on the stock base model rims but were pulling in the sidewall a little more than I like. At least I didn't have to spring for new rims.
