Regarding the questions on the test pipes and weight reduction, plumpzz is correct. I am running the crappy tpros ebay resonated test pipes. The 5Zigen A-Spec is a y-pipe back single exhaust.

For weight reduction I have a custom mounted dry cell battery located behind the passenger seat in the speaker location and a Flaming River battery disconnect switch where the battery is normally located. I am running the 13lb Carbon Fiber racing bucket seat from SPL with brackets and slider. The passenger seat was removed for the drag runs as was the spare tire and rear carpet. Other than that it's a full interior car. I was around an 1/8th tank of gas or just below. Not sure how accurate the scales are at the track as Kuah has noticed a discrepancy between there and when he corner weighted his car, but mine weighed in that night at about 3000lbs without driver and 3200 with me in the seat.

I was also running 17x7 5Zigen FN01RC wheels up front with 205 tires I believe that just clear the Stoptechs. That's all I can really think of for weight reduction.

That makes you 200 lbs! If you start eating salad for dinner, you might get below 12 seconds

Yea I was just reviewing your old thread back in december of 04 and laughing about speed k who had NO idea what he was saying. haha he said the best reaction time is .5 what a dumba$$.

Im only 17 and bought me Z by myself three months ago. Not until I pay it off am i going to put any forced induction on, but I already have a few mods that came with the car. Looking at getting kinetix high flow cats, mainly for the sound of them. But I hope to slowly na mod my car to keep up with my buddies sti. any suggestions?

Haha-too bad I hate vegetables. All I usually eat is meat, pizza, pasta and french fries! I should probably weigh in at 400lbs the way I eat!

I guess a lot of it comes down to the right setup and finding the right combination of parts that work together. Kuah and I have made many changes on this car since I bought it and have been getting consistently faster bit by bit. I've changed pretty much all the performance parts that were on the car when I bought it except for the headers. Swapped the injen intake with JWT and added the varis duct for a cool air source. Swapped the heavy Topspeed dual exhaust for a lightweight 5Zigen A-spec single. Changed out the Crawford plenum for an APS Tallboy. Ditched the stock seats for lightweight SPL ones. Swapped out the cusco sways and nismo s-tune suspension for KTS coilovers and Hotchkis sways and added adjustable SPL camber arms front and rear for more adjustability (atlhough these were mods intended more for road racing). Used a lightweight front wheel and tire combo and a good tire in the rear for hard launches. The JWT clutch and flywheel has sustained many 6000+rpm launches so far. Also installed new SPL solid diff bushings when I blew out the stock bushing to help eliminate wheel hop. I've tried out a number of different setups and I keep what works for me and recently had it tuned by SPL and Uprev to mazimize the gains of my setup.

I'm sure the car has a few more tenths in it if I hit each shift perfectly and nailed the perfect launch. On the road courses I consistently pull on the other 350z's out there and usually lap faster than them. Many of the people I track with have commented on the performance of this car. This isn't a dedicated drag car by any means-it gets a workout on the road courses also. This is not an attempt to brag, just trying to answer the question. I'll let the numbers speak for themselves I guess as I don't claim to be the worlds greatest driver.

I can't guarantee my setup will work for everyone, but I'm very happy with it so far and it works for me This car has performed beyond my expectations especially as I'm used to driving my TT z32 with at least 100rwhp more!

Nice write up Sfarrah

I have gone down the same path with swapping parts out. Your right, find out what works for you and improve from there. Its been a fun journey so far i will say.

Congrats again on a great time!!!

I know next on my list is to lighten my Z a little. Who know, maybe heads and cams. Im surprised to see or not see anyone NA with heads and cams running some good times.

Later
Todd

The exhaust I have was the first prototype sent to the US as far as I know. I'll need to check with SPL and see if they're readily available or not. I believe it weighed in around 23lbs and had 65mm id piping which matched up great with the y pipe.

OT-feel free to PM me if you wish, how do you like those seats? I've been loking at them, but buying seats without suitting in them first is kinda iffy to me you know? If you dont mind answering how tight are they on you and how big is your waist? What version of the seat do you have? I'll PM you if you want...

So far I love the seats. I'm about 5'11" or so and weigh in around 180-185lbs and have a 33" waist. They were a bit tight on my lower rib cage (I have a somewhat wide back) when I first got it but it doesn't seem noticeable any more. I'm guessing they broke in some over time.
I've driven from Austin, TX to Hallett, OK and back for a weekend on the track up there and it was about 9 hours of driving each way - didn't mind it at all. I have the wide version.

The seats have really helped keep me in place on the road course and I can concentrate much more on driving than bracing myself with my knees against the door and the console and using the steering wheel to help hold me in place. It will be even better once I get a rollbar and a harness, but so far the improvement has been huge.

I dynoed the car a few years ago when I first bought it but had a very different setup than what I'm running now. I'll have to dig it up to see what the numbers were. Only reason I had dynoed was because the local Z club was having a dyno day. I generally don't dyno unless I have the ability to tune and back then I had nothing of that sort. I prefer to go to the drag strip to test out my mods as I feel there are too many variables in play that can effect a dyno other than same day tuning. I'm now running an Innovative wideband 02 with data logging and tuned it from the logs from the drag runs.
