Default First time out, finally

Here it is:

1st run
R/t .095
60' 2.272
330 6.188
1/8 9.337
MPH 77.38
1000 12.008
1/4 14.261
MPH 101.86

2nd run

.286
2.207
6.004
6.004
9.109
78.85
11.762
14.003
101.76

3rd
.710
2.212
6.037
9.308
75.39
12.026
14.310
100.36

So all and all it wasnt a bad day. It was my first time out ever with my car, and I had a good time. I was actually bracket racing and made it to the final 8. If it wasnt for my stupidity in the 3rd run of missing 3rd gear,(I still cant get over how dumb I am, I couldnt believe I did it) I wouldve won that round. I lost to my competitor by only .05 of a second.

I am mildly content with my times, as the trap speed as all pretty good. I only have a JWT popcharger, and a motordyne spacer. I also am very surprised by how much MPH I am gaining in the last 1/8th; 24.5, 23 and 25.

The track was actually stickier then I had thought. I was practicing launching this week, but it was too low. Around 2.5k-3k slip, which just produced a bog. I thought I was launching well, but still not aggressive enough.

Im excited just to be out really. I know next time out will be better. I just need to launch a little harder, as traction was not a problem at all.

Not bad, more seat time wil get you more respectable 60ft's and times. Keep it up and you'll be 13's soon.

^lol!

Yea, I really though I would break into 13's. Its just the track was so much stickier then I thought. I had been practicing my launches at work, (big empty parkling lot, but surprising clean) but the track was stickier and I should have had a more aggressive launch.

Next time should be 13's, as I will be leaving the bose sub, and stock cats at home. I may even be finding some replacements for my leather seats, and getting a braille battery. Its going to be a good year!

Yeah, work on the launch, and you will run a high 13 next time out.

I hopefully will be going again in a week or so. I can only work on it at the track though, as the street produces much different results. I was just used to launching softer in the street. At the track I spend too much time in 1st. I feel that I will do a lot better out next time though!

I had all the pressure of bracket racing going against me as well. I cant believe I made it to the third round, and got all nervous when the Mustang I was racing in the last run got such a good jump on his launch.

You go to the dragstrip expecting a leisurely test & tune, and end up bracket racing. That’s sort of a trial by fire. For stress, nothing beats competition racing.

Oh, dont get me wrong, I loved every minute of it. I really only expected to run once and be done. I did much better then I thought, as far as dialing in was concerned.

I will be posting up my slips later tonight in that thread you sent me!

Does anyone have a link to where I can calculate the DA for the track?

I would like to understand this and try to figure it out next time I go out racing!

Thanks for the site. It works pretty good. But for the temp. is it track temp. or the temp. outside in general because thats a big difference?

Outside Temp...

Track temp the day I ran was 125F but ambient was only 87 degrees. You're right..huge difference.

Cool, both those sites were pretty neat. My corrected 1/4 with the DA correction was like a 13.8 @ 104. I hope to just hit 13.8 next time out. Which should be Wednesday night, as long as the weather cooperates.

Im just not sure of how I should launch though. If the track is as sticky as it was the other day, Im not sure if I should just slip it out at only like 1.5k-2k, so I can go WOT in 1st sooner, or slip it even higher like around 4k. Traction was not an issue for me at all, but it seemed like I was just dragging it out for too long. I guess I will just have to wait and see.

Got to go out this week. I ran a 13.9 @ 102+. Im happy because my TP's respond very well to my car. I dont have a trap speed under 101.5 now.

My track really sucks though, and there was no prep as the night went on. They just would brush away some debris with a mop every now and then. I couldnt manage a good 60' to begin with, but as the night went on it only got worse.

Still working on getting a better 60'. I need some new tires, and am gonna finally buy a set of camber arms. Im excited though because I ran a 13.9 with only a 2.29 60'. Im hoping that with a 2.1 60' I would be close to a 13.5 or so. More like 13.6 though, but you got to set goals.
