Default 07 still getting 14s

i just broke in my car so i took it to the track and was kindof disappointed. 1st off my best time was a 14.0 at 100 and my 60 ft on that time was a 2.3. i was shifting as fast as i can but no matter how fast i try to shift there seems to be a delay when i shift. and when i launch i am just reving to 2.5 ish and dumoing the clutch. is there somthing i am doing wrong? oh and it was about 85 degrees

Thanks

That is a pretty good time. Part driver error, part heat could explain the slower times. Just keep practicing, and your launch will gradually improve getting closer to 2 sec 60 ft times and 13.6ish quarters

check out this site

http://www.rangeracceleration.com/

read all of it, while it may be more focused to the corvette, just about all of it can be applied to the z also

the one thing i dissagree with on that site is the burnout of street tires. street tires dont perform good it they got to hot, my personal advise is just do a burn out to clean of ur tires of debri, 2-3 sec long burn out is plenty long enough imo. also, i do my burn out in 1st gear, never tried it in second

also, u never wanna dump the clutch, its really hard on ur drivetrain, and 99.99999999% of the time doent' result in a good launch, slipping/quick fluid release is the key

That 2.3 60 foot isn't helping you at all. Thats one big problem. Your trap is 3,4 mph off. I guessing you had a sloppy 2 -3 shift that brought the rpms down. But a slip is the best or write your time out. Practice and read what warmmilk linked you to.

and you have an 07 correct. Your sig says 06 just wondering if you meant its the year 2007 and your hitting 14's. I duno

mine is a base, it doesnt even have a lsd. but i cant find the slip but i remember the 8th was a 9.35ish @ 80. it seems like a good 8th mile trap but the time isnt good. i dont know why, but when i shift there is a delay no matter how fast i try to do it, is this a usual thing or is there a trick i dont know?

its all in the launch and weather. Im having problems breaking into 13s as well. Best 60 foot to date is 2.3 and et was 14.2 BUT my trap is consistently 101.5-102.9 So there is plenty of power just got to put it down!
My DA is always 3500-3700 Ft!!! Im just going to wait till ambient temps are in 40-50s instead of 85-95 everytime I go.

Its really about seat time in the car. You be surprised how many people think they can drive. I was horrible when I first went couple years ago now I do 2.0's on streets and Im trying for 1.9 1.8s. I love the challenge and weather doesnt help but you can still go and practice on your 60 ft and shifting and when the weather is nice you will be prepared.

*disclaimer* the following is not meant as an insult to anyone, just constructive criticism

my opinion is that u should be able to do at least a 2.0 60ft before u move on to drag radials, cause then u'll really be able to take advantage of them. if ur pulling 2.3-2.5 60 ft's on stock tires, then u'll just be doing 2.0's with drag radials. its all about seat time and practice like jdifolco said. don't replace driver skill with parts, learn how to drive first, then start adding parts.

btw, i just have to brag, i pulled my best 60ft this passed friday of 2.004, but the conditions sucked so i only ran a 13.59. *so close to that 1.9*

Nice 60'. I definitely have to agree though. Most people shouldnt try drags/slicks until they get much more practice with their street tires.

Getting new gears, switching to DR's and waiting for cool weather does not fix crappy launching. I would concentrate on that first before doing anything to the car.

Looks like we can forget about seeing the time slips.
