Broke in the Nismo at MIR
My first time ever at a drag. I went in wanting to break into the 13's. Ultimately, I'd leave frustrated.
My very first run, 14.017 @ 97.83mph. Soo close. My second run, 14.019 @ 100.34mph...wtf. After that I got much worse...bogged the launch (14.596 @ 98.13) and red lighted by rolling forward...that one pissed me off since the Z rolled exactly as the tree was going to start, thus red-lighting me
I'll scan the slips later, but here is the break down.
# 1
60' - 2.152
330 - 5.963
1/8 - 9.100 @ 78.88
1000 - 11.749
1/4 - 14.017 @ 97.83
# 2
60' - 2.192
330 - 6.033
1/8 - 9.146 @ 79.23
1000 - 11.788
1/4 - 14.019 @ 100.34
I know what I screwed up in #3 and #4...but I guess I need to work on the launch to get that 60' time down.
I only saw one other Z out there and no G35s...was kind of disappointed.

conditions must have been horrible, 2.1 60 ft should have been 13.8-13.9 in even somewhat bad conditions, trap speed was another indication of bad conditions, 07's typically trap at 103

not bad for your first try ever.
im sure you can hit high 13's next time. the first time is always a learning experience
i have a local 1/8 close by but i never have driven my nismo Z yet.
on my 2003 S-tune i would do consistantly 9.1 @ 80mph. im curious to see what that extra 900 rpms would do.

and MC, low 9s are ok, but with the new car you should be substantially lower.

I know it has more, just need to work on the launch and shifting...13's will come.I varied my shifting, I was experimenting a little. On my 14.017, I didn't shift at redline...more like 7. The second run was redline and my trap speed went up, but I was making up for a slower launch...so same launch as my first run I probably would have a had a 13.9. Live and learn...I'll probably head to the track next week, hopefully I get as many runs in.

Maybe when the motor gets more broken in? It's only got 3900 on it.

Do me a favor and post your launch technique.
My typical launch is to start with my first run at 5,000 RPM's. Not give more throttle until the car starts to squat, then gradually increase to full throttle while still slipping the clutch. If the car doesn't bog and doesn't spin increase the speed you give it throttle and give it a few hundred more RPM on launch (I like 5,500 if the track holds it). My best right now was run on a slick staging pad so best I could do for launch was 4,500 and a lot of slip without a lot of throttle progression.
Keep your tires at the stock pressure if you didn't, it is a bit harder to spin, and less wheel hop if you do.
Also, for shifting, shift at redline the power curve increases almost all the way to redline and you get more meat of the curve if you shift as high as possible.
I can't get 2nd to keep grip if I powershift so I'm a little slow on the clutch release and don't hold throttle, 3rd I lift a hair but might as well powershift, and 4th is the same thing.
Do a tire cleaning burnout, nothing crazy, just rev and let the clutch out, let the car spin the tires for a second or so (moving forward) put the clutch back in and stage. Keeps gravel and stuff from making your launch impossible.
Good luck, hope to see some VERY improved times

Tires are stock PSI. The only thing not stock about my car is the floor mats and license plate brackets...the common nismo mods!

Thanks for the tips...I know I just need to get out there and practice some more. I think the launch is what's killing my time. I'm sure I can knock 1/2 second off with a better launch.
I have you by .5 at the 1/8th, and .4 at the 330 mark, so I'd tend to agree. My trap for the 1/8th is also higher though, so it helped all the way down the track. I don't think I'll get much better (80.5) so I'm stuck gaining what I gain or less off the ET.
I've never had issues with the clutch sticking on the burnout, but have on the launch, its something you will learn to work around.

I ran a sleu of 14.0s-14.6s at 96-100 my first 5 times to the track in my car. Thats about 30 passes.
a year later I was running 13.4-13.6s at 102-3.
I learned alot about shifting speed,
shift points (most people shift too early, naturally)
launching (lower tire pressure to 25 psi and learned the perfect rpm and throttle modulation to achieve 2.00-2.02s on every pass)
It will just take time and practice, you'll find it.
