Default My Drag Setup

just wanted to give an update....i got a hold of 04 mach 1 wheels off a mustang...they are 17x8...i know they are a little heavy 27 pounds i believe but close to the same as stock wheels.....i have also got ahold of some used MT ET streets.....275/40/17.......i heard one of the stickiest drag radials out there......so that is my setup i will most likely have an update no later then next friday with this setup.......i am not recomending this setup to anyone for i have not experimented with it but your comments and experienced advice would be very helpfull for this is my first time without street tires....best with street tires was a 2.1 60" i know its not the greatest but i took advantage of this deal...so thanks in advance for your opinions and advice

I believe those tires are a R2 compound which is popular for street and strip. I am not a professional drag racing tire person, but are you sure that tire is suitable for a 8.0 inch wheel? See: http://www.mickeythompsontires.com/s...ETStreetRadial

I agree. If it says 275 on it, it is their STREET RADIAL, not ET STREET. My ET STREETS say 10.5 on them.

I'm running 275's (autox) on the the stock 17's with no problems at all(17x7.5 and 17x8)

You should be fine running a 275 on a 8in wheel....

I disagree. I know the autox people will squeeze a lot of rubber onto a small wheel so that they can stay in the BS class. Autox speeds are a bit slower than most autox courses, and the risk of having a tire issue is not linear with speed. I would not want an oversized tire for drag racing. A properly-sized drag radial for a N/A Z will provide plenty traction. The recommended minimum wheel size for a 275 is 9".

Don't be too disappointed if your 60's don't improve too much with the 40 series tire on a 17" rim... that is not a lot of sidewall for give...
You'd be better off with a 16 inch wheel and a taller 50 series sidewall, but you have what you have, so hopefully you'll be able to make it work and get the results you are looking for.
Regards,
Mike
