So, about a week ago, I went to the drag strip during an event (Import Face-Off) and got a few runs in. Because this was an event (heads up racing and bracket racing), I wasn't able to get a lot of real runs in - total of 3 good runs and then I went straight into bracket racing (my first bracket race, btw
).
Honestly, I'm a bit disappointed with my 3 good runs. The 60' is now my best ever and the run is also now my PB run. However, it felt like I could've gone a bit faster down the strip. I've gone down the strip N/A on Hoosier D05 slicks (13.212) and I've gone down the strip on spray on sh1tty street tires (high 12s), but never on these ET Streets (bought recently from a local and mounted on some cheap, heavy steelies - see attached) along with juice before.
These tires are stickier than I thought they'd be. I was either bogging slightly or spinning, mostly the former. And when the juice came on in 1st, I felt a slight hesitation for some reason. Additionally, I was a bit reluctant to launch hard like I would N/A when I was juicing that day - launched around 4.5K (*****, I know
).
Like I said, there was a delay from my launch until the juice came on in 1st. So, I'm guessing that thanks to my weak launch, my RPM is dropping below my predesignated RPM and then as I WOT out of the hole, I'm being bottle fed.
My questions:
-Will I be ok launching as hard as I do N/A (above 6k) when I'm on the spray as long as I preload and feather? I want to launch with the juice helping me out of the hole immediately rather than having to wait for it, but at the same time I want to drive 110 miles back home.
-Do you see any improvement to be made looking at my time slip (see attached) other than growing some hair on my ***** and launching higher?
For those interested:
temp: 64.75ºF
humidty: 27.5%
track alt: 505
pressure: 30.25"

I'm not good at linking threads, but if you look up member "one350zfan" and in his sig is a video of him racing(11.2et and 1.6 60') and he was on spray right from the launch and launching at 5500-6000rpm. He was excellent on his launches so maybe you can get an idea of what it takes to launch at that rpm. This was also on the OEM clutch and he drove it to and from the track.
I'm amazed you can launch past 6k N/A if I launch that high I'll sit right on the line and just spin, then kicks into wheel hop. I had to launch at right around where you launched from and even then I still get a little spin. I don't have drags though I'm on street tires..shitty exclaims.

BTW, he's one of the best guys we had here with juice. Whatever happened to him?
And to answer the non-helpful posts..

- yes, it's a wet "75" shot.. running rich, though, since I don't have a tune
- they're M/T ET Streets 26x10.5x15 without tubes - these aren't bad, but Hoosier D05's are stickier
- I launched past 6 all the time N/A (when I was running on slicks)
I have never ran with N20 down the track but I helped coach my friend to a 12.0 @ 113mph his first time running the N20 on my slicks.
Your 60ft is good but can improve. Low 1.7's and 1.6's are not out of reach for you.
Launch higher, tray 5000+rpm's next time. Little tip that works for me is dont hold rpm's steady, rev up and down a 300-500rpm range where you want to launch. Dont stare at the tach, look straight and you'll feel the car out of the hole better. My friend hit a 1.62 60ft like this, and Ive helped NA guys run LOW 1.8's there first time out with this technique.
Start at 16psi and decrease .5lb if they are spinning. Do 2nd gear lonnngggg burnouts
Preload and feather the clutch QUICKLY, it will almost be a dump on slicks, you need to trust that the tires will hook, if you release the clutch once you have felt the hook you released it too slow!
And last, increase the shot to 100 shot and for safe measure do a splash of race gas. You can see it in your traps that its running rich the 2nd half down the track or losing bottle pressure-have a warmer? Low 12's and 11's are a jet change and a launch away. Nice time for the first time out!

Nice. ^ That was what I was looking for.
Yeah, I've noticed you and a few other people doing the pulsing launch or whatever it is. I don't look at the tach when I launch - not that noob.
I get it up to my launch RPM and hold it there watching the light (unless I'm concentrating on trying to launch). I figured I could launch on nitrous like I normally would do N/A, but wasn't sure.
I'll give your method a try and I'm definitely gonna launch past 5 and maybe even try 6+.
I do a long enough 2nd gear burnout (as long as I can, which is about 3 sec). They usually catch traction and rockets me forward toward the end of my burnout - I need line locks. I do get a little bit of smoke, so I think I'm ok with that. As far as the tire pressure goes, I tried 21psi and spun so I lowered it to 17 and bogged. I upped it to 18.5psi and that's where I stayed rest of the day. I think I could've done 19ish and would've been fine.
As far as the clutch work goes, that's exactly what I'm doing now. It is almost a dump the way I'm doing it right now. So, I guess I'm good there.
The reason why I'm at a "75" shot (NX jet sizes) is because I don't want to be too close to the limits, just in case. I have to drive this car back and forth and is my daily driver so I can't afford any down time. That's also another reason why I'm running rich (on purpose) - would rather risk a nitrous backfire vs running lean. And I do have a warmer - otherwise I would've have 6xx psi that day.
Thanks for your launch tip. I'll try that out and I'm going to launch higher.
