Default First time at the 1/4, 03 5at

Well I decided to go to the 1/4 mile track in west palm beach (PBIR) right after I got my car dyno tuned with osiris at a shop nearby. The tune itself didn't give me that much peak HP/TQ but it did fix my lean as hell AFR and also gave me enough gains throughout the band... which made me happy.

Here's the pic of the heartbreak dyno:

Now onto the runs. This was my first time at a drag racing track in my whole life.
My mods are: Popcharger w/ heatshield, Z1M test pipes, megan y-pipe, custom resonator delete midpipe to GReddy Ti-C single exhaust, transgo valvebody shift kit, and 3.53 final drive diff. Car is an '03 Touring, 5at with 76k~ miles roughly.

runs 1,2,3

4,5

Overall I think I did ok. The weather was pretty humid and hot; I'm not sure if that has anything to do with the times. I was getting my launching down after the 5th run but sadly they started prepping the track again and I had to go home.

thanks

You did good. Better 60's + better weather= better times. I was able to pull 2.00 60's my first time out with my car. Try launching a little harder but keeping wheel spin to a minimum. Where are you launching at now?

I was launching right at 2k or so.. tried a little higher and got some wheelspin, but probably because the track was badly prepped.

Wheelspin isnt always a bad thing you just have to control it. I learned that after many many trips down the strip. Launch above 2k but dont immediatly go WOT. You may have to practice it a little bit but you'l get it after a while.

thanks, I'll definitely try that next time I go. Yeah I really need more practice since I couldn't try everything I had in mind in just those 5 passes I made. Also, I've heard or read somewhere that with too much negative camber my time can be lower? because my rear camber right now is at -2.5, running no camber arms on a 9.5 wide rim with 275/40/18 sumitomo htr z III tires.

The only thing that bothers me is the drive to the track.. its about 1 hour 40mins just to get there. If it wasn't for that I'd go way more regularly.

you did really well for a first time out. as I looked through I was hoping you would pull off that extra little bit needed to hit 100mph trap - sooo close!

60' times are hard for 5at, we can't launch very high without having insane wheel spin. I can't really launch any harder then 2k either, or I'm forced to feather the acceleration for too long and it hurts my time.

be proud - most 5at's can't get out of the 14s on their first trip. you did good.

It appears that you are crossing the finish line at the bottom of 4th gear. Is this true?

Yes. Heat is a killer. If you allow 30 minutes between runs you are OK. Round robin (or back to back runs) will adversely affect ET.

Correct, except on run number two where i shifted to 4th right after crossing the finish line.

Ah yeah, I was only allowing 10-15 mins in between runs.

thanks lol, I know, i was hoping for that damn 100mph trap and lower 60ft, but time wasn't on my side and only got to run 5 times :[. I guess I'll go to a more local 1/8th mile and test there for a few!

It seems to me that you're shifting into 4th right before the trap, except run #2 where you finished in 3rd.

Not good. If you can cross the finish line in 3rd you are gold. If you must shift to 4th you are dead. Remember the last 60 feet is the "speed trap." You are, unfortunately, shifting in the trap.

You did good. I see great potential for your skills and the Z.

Consistency looks really good, I wish I could be more consistent. Just a thought but you should save your tires and go around the burnout box, not really worth it in my opinion unless your running some sort of drag tire, but yeah welcome to the addiction! haha

Your 3.53 might be the reason your trap is a little low. I know that some of the G35 sedan that throw on that ratio have a slightly higher 1/8th mile trap, but a lower 1/4mi trap.

Good run! Get more power so you can get out of the dead zone (95ish -110, then it picks up) that comes when the 5AT shifts into 4th, hahah.
