06 350z drag racing experience.
Well, finally did my first drag race last night at cecil county dragway here in Baltimore MD.
I ran against my buddies 95 mustang, and I got stomped. My first run was beyond horrible, went through the water pit and didn't burnout to dry the tires (street), and ended up spinning my wheels like crazy, atleast that's what it felt like because when i stepped on the gas i basically went straight to redline for about 3 gears. Oh, and my buddy decides to tell me AFTER we were done racing that I should be launching on the 3rd yellow and not the green, which I was going on green. After searching on here tonight I found that I should have went around the water pit, but I did not see a way to go around it, atleast from what I remember. Not entire sure you could all it a water pit either, well, not that I've to any other track to know what exactly a 'good' water pit is. My second run I did 'better', and I use that term loosely.
First run: I'm in the left lane # 453.
Second run: I'm in the right lane # 453
I know I know, they are just horrible for a Z. My first run really took the wind out of my sails as I thought I would give his mustang a run for its money. I felt better after the 2nd run but I really thought I'd do better. After reading some more on here I realize I need to just practice practice practice. Need to find my launching point and work on shifting. I'll be sure to post more slips as I plan on going to the track more as my overall experience was very fun.

^ha!! I'm laughing at you only because it happens to everyone (or at least everyone who has raced a drag strip). And yes, there is a learning curve...
Did you turn your traction control off? Many people say to turn it off but its my opinion to leave it on - let the ECU determine your traction level and adjust power to the wheels accordingly.

Turn my traction control off? I am not aware I could do that in a Base 06. Please correct me if I am wrong on this. I plan on going up this Friday (weather permitting) and give it one more go before winter really kicks on.

Na, didn't go there. We went to Cecil County Dragway. My buddy has been to capital before but for my first time we went to Cecil County. Met some really nice people there, most of them my buddy knows from previous mustang shows and events so naturally I am the only one in a huge group of mustang owners that is running a import.

Lol, my bad. Should have pointed that out from the start. I've seen on a few post and on 350ztech.com that having the VDC on will completely kill my 1/4 time. Is this true? and if so how would I turn it off in my base 06?

Here is the video from my dash cam for the second run. The first one was just horrible so I didn't upload it to photobucket. On this run I missed 3rd gear, seems I got better traction then I did on the first run tho.

No alphabet soup (VDC, TCS, nor VLSD) on base model.

That one wheel peel with wet tires must have been epic for the spectators.
At least you did better on the second run
Get some fat tires and or steal a differential from a non base, or get a real limited slip from the aftermarket and you will probably take off some serious time.
