Well I used toyo, yokohama, falken and some cheap used tires for my AE86. I liked the toyo the most but they get greasy after a few laps. I liked the yokohama ES100 for the front tires w/ cheap $hitty used tires on the back but the sidewall on ES100 went bad. [got ripped off...]
I liked the toyo for the grip driving and falken for drifting. But I used 195/50/15 tires with 15x8 size rim lol
Z is totally different from AE86...

iono about drifting but we tore up a set of kdw2s on a hot track. they don't seem to hold up too well under extreme heat.

 

well they are decently soft tire so they dont have a super long life as say some of the street yokohama tires.

Soft tire= better grip = short life
harder tire = less grip = longer life

 

i do and i love them


and yes the bfg life is extremely short and not easy on the budget but worth it for a well performing tire

i had action figures of your Dad back in the 80s.

 

mostly toyo t1-r(which i loved)

ive tested a few different brands(goodyear,kuhmo,sumitomo,michelin,pirelli)

but for what i need/like is a grippy tire which so far the kdw2 was the best, and michelin was a close second.

the toyos are fantastic tires. just depends on your driving style/ preference

im still dying to test on some falkens,coopers,and yokohamas

toyos, really? i've thought toyos were pretty mediocre, not bad though when they are free

falkens are decent, they wont ever dissapoint you, but they wont rock your world either. coopers are pieces of ****...

 

Only tried Sumitomo HTR Z II's in 255/45/R17 - $180/ pair, pretty long life and do well in the rain.

and

Khumo Escta SPT 255/45/R17 - $195/ Pair, Extremly long life, and very predictable. They're cheap as hell too.

Ex of long life:
I got the khumos mounted and drove 200 miles to a Nopi Drift event in St. Louis in july: drifted from 9am-4pm and drove back 200 miles on them, i'm still daily driving the car with the same tires and they're at about 40% tread right now.

had some goodyears this last weekend, **** load of smoke and lasted a while. check out my vid in the forum.

 

I had the Kuhmo Escta SPT's for a while. They are good and didn't chunk on me. I have recently switched to Cooper Zeon ZPT's (wanted to try something different, besides they are a cheaper than the Escta SPT's). I can see why now though. The Cooper ZPT's completely SUCK for daily driving (grip) around town. My woman is scared to even take a corner at a decent speed in the Z right now. I haven't drifted on them to much, but they seem to be ok for that. But never will I buy them again to drive on regularly. Complete Drifting tire ONLY.

 

kuhmo ecsta spt tires get greasy and thread up on you with consecutive laps. Spt's are only good for events like driftday, where you only do one lap at a time. But if you take them up to willow springs HTM, you'll get around 3 laps or so before they rip apart..
Anyone drift on nankang nsII tires? They are hella cheap...
