Default wider tires in the front. narrow in the rear

so i have 18x9+20 255/40/18 in the front

im going to have to use oem drift spares (18x8.5 +3X?)on the rear this weekend witch have 245-45 tires on them. how will this make my car behave wile drifting? and should i use my 25mm spacers on the rear to at least make my rear track wider?

from what i was able to find im thinking over steer.

il add that i usually drift 225f, 245r

I've ran narrower tires in the rear at almost every drift event I've ever been to, usually 225's in the rear and really grippy 245's up front. It leaves a little to be desired as far as traction (car likes to push out towards the edge of the track) but nothing that can't be controlled as long as you keep a good handle on the car.

Your car will definitely oversteer. It's probably a good thing since you'll be drifting

Cool, thanks. And what ate your thoughts on te spacers? I'm thinking the wider track will came the car more predictable since it wil be a closer match to the front

I don't think you'll notice it, but if you have a set, it won't make life worse. I like a wider front tire regardless, as it balances the car greatly. I've thought about running wider in the front, but never have.

I normally run 285s in the front and 205-245 in the rear for drifting.

285's in the front...... holy sh*t

Running more narrow in the front will make the car understeer much more than running more narrow in the rear will make the car oversteer (as far as driver feel is concerned). Z's are tail happy but they don't do so well with little front traction either.

I ran 225's on the front of my Z once and it was terrible, couldn't drift my Z aggresively like I like to since it just wanted to immediately understeer. I've never had any issues with rear tire to the point where I couldn't keep the car from over rotating due to oversteer (increased steering angle doesn't hurt either).

I cant imagine drifting with 285 up front, seems like turn in and transitioning would be a ***** and cause under-steer just push the front end trying to enter. I use grippy 235s which i think is the perfect balance and i guess 245 would be pushing the optimal limit. If all you have is 255 to use should be ok just rock out, id go ahead and space out the rear though to try and have a more neutral layout also rear alignment settings (camber toe)will play a big game in having more grip and not spinning the car around.

285s fit rather easily. I have run 295 and 305s in the front as well. No fender mods.

sounds like you're just starting out. at this point it won't really matter. as you progress you won't want narrower rear tires as you will want the forward bite of a wider tire. Also you want the front overall width to be narrower so the car will pivot at the front. think of a triangle with one corner secured and the other 2 pivot around it.
