yes the engines are very strong, also highly rated amongst the top ten in the world for several years now..

This is a highly debated issue, searching in the FI forum would be your best bet..
IIRC, gtm had something on going where they boosted there stock block/internals G and ran it untill it blew.. It only succumbed after months of hard driving and a few track days, and even then it only gave up when one of them red lined it on the final stretch of there 3rd-4th track day..

I know of at least one person running an APS TT on his stock block, with no engine issues as yet. I believe he is running around 8-9 psi...

Hope this helps.

thanks Church....i've tried searching the FI forum but they don't have a sticky or FAQ about boosting on stock internals, they just have threads about who is boosted and types of kits, and oil.

pukiZ, yea i'm on HR race with konis on full stiff..and it handles pretty good...i haven't had a chance to get into a Z yet..i'm still doing my research on the car.

how is the acceleration compared to a VTEC crossover? do you get that same sensation? is it a nice power band and you don't feel it at all?

yeah... its different power, the v-tec kicks a little harder. Driving the Z u don't have to rev it nearly as hard.
My prelude was I/H/E VAFC II tuned Lightened fly wheel and bunch of other mods (no F/I) but the Z is a diff ball game , its a lot more fun jus because its rwd.
And fer curiousity i ran my friend's Modded Sir (used to keep up w/ my prelude) and its not even a race ... the Z hands down pulls sooo much harder esp top end

you're forget about the 8k revs once you feel the torque kick in so much earlier

or you can find an 06 with the rev-up engine get get a 7500 redline instead of a 6600 rl.

yea i was reading up on these REV UP engines??..are they only available on 06's?
from what i read some 04's have them or somethign can be done to get a 7500 RPM line

does fuel cutoff happen at 6600?

if you don't do a reflash, the revs bounce around 6600. but from the dyno, you won't make much more power if you reflashed your ecu to allow for 7500rpm, so it probably isn't worth it.

so no gains after the reflash??..then what's the point? ..can the VQ engines take a 7500 beating like the honda's take the 8k beating?

imo you won't need to rev to 8000rpms , i find myself shifting at 5-6 on curvies when i drive aggresively (and i rode v-tec in my prelude like there was no tmr)

my suggestions would be to try n test drive a Z and a S2K and a STi (ugly but turbo AWD can't be beaten), if you really like high revving motors S2K might actually be the right car for you. The Z has torque which is non existent in N/A hondas and *****es love it!

Default Safe limits

From all the research I've done,(looking at Vortech FI) the stock VQ is quite safe up to 400 WHP.
By the way, I've owned lots of Hondas...

Honda = NO bottom end torque
350Z = Good bottom end torque
Anything Turbo'd (STI) = Great torque, usually matches HP

damn, it's all about PPW and black cars. I think we're leading in the Z count when compared to every other colour.

It's too bad they didn't have Brickyard or IF in 04...i love that colour.
