Should not be a problem driving it in the winter. Just get it rust proofed and put some sexy steel rims on it. Why buy a car if you if you can't drive it all year around? Never really understood that. The 350z has heats seats right? humm.....

Back in the day people always used to drive rear wheel drive cars in the winter. Mind you, not the same huge torque and HP but they only kick in when you want them to.

it's not that you can't drive your z in the winter (well, not with the summer tires at least), it's the loss you'll feel afterwards and by loss i mean the following ..

1. loss of $$$ from buying really good winter tires w/steelies (approx 1500-2000).
2. loss of value to the car (try re-selling a z that's been winter-driven and you'll have buyers running for the hills).
3. damage incurred from salt, sand, snow, everything and you'll have stone chips galore.
4. having to clean the z every other day (or in j's case, everyday) from salt stains

True, good points for sure!

1. 1500 - 2000 is cheaper then buying a winter beater
2. Don’t plan on selling the car, if I do then I will have to take the loss. Mine was winter driving before I bought it. No issues with it. They are normally designed to be driven in the winter.
3. Good point - Getting it under coated next week... Stone chips are inevitable...better buy some touch up paint.
4. True, got a car wash on the way home fortunately.

Church, hope I don’t see to many of those postings but you never know...

End of the day, it is just a car. An awesome though!!

It's a 350z, not a Ferrari. I understand the point that it's not a good winter car at all, but if you're storing it because you're worried about resale, you're wasting your energy and losing your marbles. The car doesn't hold good value at all, stored or not stored. It's not worth losing sleep over. Just enjoy it now because in a year or two, every kid is going to have one and you'll want to sell it anyways.

you can definitely get a winter beater for less than $2000. and insurance/gas during the winter months will be cheaper too

I know someone who bought a volvo beater for like $800 or something.

in regards to winter driving, it's a personal preference, but as for enjoying the car all year round...i'm sure there'll be days you wish you were driving something else than your Z during the winter.

another thing to consider is that it's not you that won't be careful in bad weather, but other people being stupid and running into you.

i'm personally storing my z not because of re-sale, but because i can't stand to see my z ruined with winter driving but i'm just saying in general, some people may value their z to a degree which forces them to store it in winter to prevent the above.

OK maybe I have OCD but I have never even driven my Z in the rain I wash it maybe 2x/year and the rest of the time it's nxt detail spray. I wash my rims every 200-300kms to get the brake dust off the inside of the rims.

I'm not saying anyone else is wrong for the way they use their Z I just couldnt ever handle looking at a dirty Z.... I find a little dust or a bug on the windshield bothers me.
My altima coupe is far from the cleanest car on the block but that doesnt bother me as I only have OCD with the Z... just ask my wife

^^ haha .. don't worry, you're not the only one who's ocd about their 350z, you should see some of the members here who break out their detailing kits at our meets as if it were a 911 emergency

200-300km? I wash my car almost weekly, or bi weekly, with a fresh coat of Zaino at least once a month :P I'm sure OCD is a pretty common thing between Z owners.

But alas, it is my daily driver of sorts, so I do drive in the rain, though i avoid it if i can.

Another point towards gonein60's storing the car in the winter, some of us has abit too much power to grip properly with anything other than chained tires in the winter time, and even that's debatable.

Why would you take VDC off in the winter? Does it not prevent slipping?

I find it accelerates faster than with VDC off. VDC prevents the wheel from slipping, but when you have no traction at all, the wheels will never spin. I've driven it with both VDC on and off. VDC off is much better if you know how to control it.

Storing is key. Just because I want to keep the car and winter is hell on paint, and on the engine. 1400 freezing cold starts for the loss on engine and parts wear.

And for cribbie...... Didn't you just get that Z a couple of months ago?
