Should I buy a lottery ticket? I always make fun of lottery ticket buyers. Such ridiculous odds of winning. I will bet the winner won't even be from Toronto. Any takers?

Yes you are right. The people I make fun off are the ones who drop 20+ a week on tickets.
I had a dental assistant once who was obsessed with the lottery. Her brother won "Cash for Life" and she was convinced it was only a metter of time before she won 6/49. She played $21 a week.
I did the math for her. The odds of her ever winning assuming she spent that much until her death in her 80's were about 1:3000 to 1:3300.
Her response to that was, "well those are pretty good odds".
I was like that's like a small sports area full of 85 year olds, and 1 will get picked over the course of their entire lives.
To which her response was, well that person will be me.
And I said, ok assuming you aren't the winner, if you had been one of the extraneous 3299 people and you invested that money at 7% at 85 you would have.
$940 236.00 which is equal in her mind to winning the lottery.

This shut her up. But she still spends 20-30 a week on lottery tickets.
