rustproofing
Is anyone going to do this before winter starts? the yearly application stuff from Rust Check or Krown?
I've heard that it's mostly BS hehe but i wanted to make sure since winter is around the corner!
Although today felt like summer with a 21c high... but i'm not complaining

My car is parked for the winter so I will not be rustproofing.
However, it is my experience that rustproofing can go a long way to protecting the body, brake lines, fuel lines and suspension parts on your car. Every vechile I've had that I've driven in the winter has been rustproofed and it definitely makes a significant difference. I have seen evidence that Krown is superior to Rust Check, but I have no idea what the difference between the two is.
There are many choices for rustproofing-if you want to know more pm me. And no, i do not own a rustproofing facility-this is based on my own experience.

Cool - thankyou both for the input
Question though: with Krown, I heard they need to drill holes in your car in order to fully rust-proof everything?? is this true? if so - should i do it to my Z??? seems like a bad idea.

That can be true, but, usually they will only drill on older cars. On newer cars there are usually ways to get to all the nooks and cranies without drilling. I wouldn't let them drill. Ask them before they do your car if they intend to drill...if so, go somewhere else.
I had the Krown application done as I felt the extra $120 a year was a minimal investment in protecting the resale value of a $50000 car. I was especially concerned about preserving as best as possible the clean look of the underbody.
I have had rustcheck done in the past on cars and it seemed to work well. For example my 1985 Celica still had NO rust in 2000 when I saw it at a friend's who had bought it from me in 1995.
He hadn't continued to rust check it but it was rust checked the first ten years of its life.
hope that helps.

thanks for the replies guys... but i'm still torn... is it really that useful?
Post350z I can see how a car built in the 80's can benefit from this kind of process... but will the Z?
I've done a lot of research into this topic... cars built since the early 90's were specially treated with a self-healing zinc coating which helped to seal and prevent rust... add to this the fact that the Z was built with primarily aluminum parts... i can't help but think that the spray-on rust proofing will do more harm than good (by plugging up the drain holes)...
I clearly need more advice on this

to add to the previous post:
does anyone have an example of how a yearly rust proofing process has helped a late 90's early 2000 car?
ideally someone who owns or knows people with 2 identical cars, where one was treated and one was not

Strife, I never owned a late model car that was rustproofed so I can't comment on Krown's effectiveness on a late model car, but as for your concern that it might do more harm than good, I can't see how? The Krown will certainly not plug up any drainage points (in my estimation). It simply provides a thin film of extra protection. I am pretty certain it can't hurt, if it did they would probably not offer the lifetime no rust guaranty? But I admit I am no expert.
Hope that helps, and thanks for your reply to my amp post by the way.

ok i caved in from paranoia and decided to get the oil spray done today... 79.99 at fxauto... not bad, i watched them put it on... high quality job
only problem? my garage stinks...

Was that fxauto in Whitby? Good choice, I know those guys well.
And the stink...it'll go away. I think in the end you'll be glad you rust proofed it since you have to drive it in the winter.

i'm in markham
but yea back in early nov it was 21c... at least for a few hours
don't know about krown and rust check... but after doing some research, I realized that the only rustproofing worth doing (IMO) is the yearly oil spray... and basically ANY body shop will do it for around $100... no need to pay krown/rust check markups...
granted I don't get their gurantee, but you only get those gurantees if you follow their routine anyway (yearly spray, bi-yearly touch up etc)
