Do you mind telling us the names of those two shops that dealt with your wheels?
Thanks.

Duff's Tire in Newmarket is the shop that scratched the crap out of my new wheels. The other shop tried to do the right thing by sending my gear to someone they thought would handle the job better. I'd like to protect their identity because they have so far done the right thing. We'll see how this gets resolved.

Fair enough: I took the rims and tires to Ray and Sons who then subbed the work out to Duff's.

Here's the story I got from Rays and Sons today:

He spoke with the guys at Duff's Tire and they claim that there is a special finish on the RPF1 that makes the weights have difficulty sticking. They are now suggesting that I should cover the weights with duct tape to make sure they stick.

They are also telling me that the scratches are not a result of a co-op kid attacking my wheels with a screw drive but their attempt to scuff up my wheels to make the weights stick. They were trying to HELP me by messing up my wheels...I see now. How kind!

I have not paid them a visit yet to pick up my wheels.

People use RPF1's at the track all the time. I have never heard anyone complain of this "special finish".

But then I would also expect standard stick weights to stick without issue.

Of all the steps involved in mounting and balancing tires, applying sticky weights is so easy a cave man could do it.

Miles this sucks sorry bro. Duffs is obviously having a laugh with the whole thing. "duct tape"? And trying to get them to stick by scratching them??
I would get even if I were you.... Lol
You shouldn't stack your wheels long term. Stand em up on the rubber.
I had a ding in one of my new Volks years back and I lost it too. I got $150 and was kinda satisfied since it was probably from shipping, and not too bad of a ding.

Wow, sucks you're having these issues.. also there's a spray they're suppose to use that acts as an adhesion promoter / surface cleaner so the weights attach properly..

It sounds like they're using sub par wheel weights.i know that the cheaper wheel weights adhesive doesn,t hold well.
I,m 99% sure it's their sticky weights
good luck
