300hp or 287hp
does anyone know which z is faster. the 2006 have standard 300hp and 260 ft lbs of torque, whereas the years b4 are 287hp and 274ft lbs of torque. now then..... which one is faster??? (0-60, quarter-mile, etc...)

Also, to the original poster. This topic has been discussed many times. I suggest that you do a search.

There is no way nissan would underrate this engine 20hp and there is no way it produces 320hp stock. We had a 35th dyno and the torque was particularly weak... I've seen couple of 35th anni at the track and their trap speed in average is the same as 03-04(100-101). You cannot compare you car to another and draw universal conclusions, that is retarded. Not all cars put out the same amount of power from factory, you have weak cars and strong cars... statistically I'm sure the 300hp engine puts out exactly 300hp.

power is torque * rpm (for simplicity)
if you have same torque as a 287hp engine @ 4800 - 6400 rpm.... it means either you have WAY more than 300hp or the 287hp engine as WAY less than 287hp.

I will try to find a stronger one to compare to. All the dyno sheets are in the link in the sig under the folder 350z if you want to check them out.
the 03 seems a bit low, and your car puts out a ****load of torque over what it's rated.
it's hard to say as a curious point is at what RPM each engine peaks at torque and hp. Power, it seems the 03 peaks bellow 6200rpm, which is odd. While yours is obfuscated so can't really tell, but seems to peak above 6500rpm which is odd again.
Anyway... from what I have seen in general, both engines are so close it's hard to tell which is which. Remember that dyno takes power at the wheel... so there is even more error from one car to another(even same model). Dyno is good only to compare your car to your car... and even there it's not 100% accurate. I've seen some pretty freaky things...
I really hate dynos(nothing personal). They are just too often used in the wrong way and create fuss over nothing. You don't race cars on a dyno.

I just use the dyno sheets to try and inform people about the 300hp motors HP and TQ curves.
1st - 240
2nd - 241
after the 2nd run my cellphone started ringing in the car. So I went in and picked up my cellphone to get the call. Once I got back... results where...
3rd - 245
4th -244
Now, you have to be carefull with the conclusions you draw
driving without cellphone is not 4rwhp

go to dragstrip couple of times in summer and put in 15-30 runs (over a couple of weeks). Compare you MPH to other cars there... best real-life result you can have.

Best driver would win the race. Neither model has more hp or tq than the other one to say for sure who would win 9/10. Thehawk's 05' dyno is particularly strong, I havent seen any other 05' track or 35th anniversary even come close, they seem to be mid 240's whp average, I did 239whp stock in an 03'.....
I havent seen any 300hp Z's trapping any higher than the 287 ones, until I see a handful of guys trap 104mph( cuz many in regular Z's are 103.XX stock) or over Ill say they are even.
Oh BTW if any 300hp Z's in MD are reading this and would like to race a slow 03' let me know, I dont care what mods you have as long as your NA

I think Jason from performance nissan dynoed around 250rwhp, but he was running on crappy CA gas.
