Default Nissan truck broken fan belt

While taking my elder Nissan truck through the desert this weekend I broke a fan belt in the middle of nowhere. I'm disappointed last week's shop inspection didn't warn me of excess belt wear, so check yours often! The fault would probably alert similarly on the Z. The broken alternator belt lit a red warning 12V and brake light, but no check engine light. I was just a 1/4 mile from a service station and felt lucky to save tow time. So I drove slow watching the temp gage climb, and the external 40o kept it from pegging the meter. It still leaked some coolant, so it was a very stupid to drive it broken! The Tow Driver's referred large shop didn't work past 4pm and told me to stay overnight in that God forsaken town! Instead I was towed 65ml to a small shop that fixed it. The high temp loosened up a valve they tightened and it was good to go! In hindsight, I was very lucky not to have cracked the head, and next time I will pull over immediately for a tow! The towing charge was $7/ml, so I was very glad to have extended towing coverage. My mileage increased ~20% with new flexible belts. After surviving a broken belt unscathed, I am psyched for a Z pulley upgrade!
