3rd gear/Tranny Warranty Question.. HELP!
I bought my car used this past Jan. Its an 03 touring 6speed. Ive searched a bit and noticed that there was a serious problem with 3rd gear grinding.
My car grinds in 3rd gear, ONLY when its UNDER normal operating temps ( ie. when the car is cold). If i dont shift like an 80 year old grandma, it will grind. It only does it once, then after that initial grind, its fine.
After reading the owners manual and warranty papers from the factory, i understand the powertrain has a warranty of 6yr/60k miles. Is this correct? and if so, should i just take this to the dealer and make them fix it?
Any help is appreciated, and would be a great help. Thanks!

Tranny replacements
I had a the same problem and took it to the dealer where I purchased and the refused to replace. I called Nissan USA and they suggested I take it to another dealer and they replaced it without any hassle. My grind went away after the fluid warmed up. I left the car at the dealers lot over night and had them drive it the next morning. Got a rebuilt 04 transmission and a new clutch. You'll be ok.

I finally got the service records for my used '03 Touring (which now has 33K miles on it)
The previous owner had the transmission replaced at 9,586 miles because it made grinding noises going into third gear.
Apparantly it was done under warranty and they also replaced the clutch pedal as well. The records said the trans cost $1,951.58
I would immediately take it to the dealer and have them check it out.
Good luck to you.

Benny I bought mine the last part of last year, the owner had just had a tranny and clutch installed under warranty. Make sure it's a reputable dealership, some dealership mechanics just are'nt up to par IMO. Call SGP in H-town, maybe they can recommend a good local dealership for you. I heard Mossy is supposed to be good. BTW I understand they're supposed to replace clutch and PP also no charge, question that too. Theres always Courtousy Nissan in Dallas.{they did mine}. Good luck. David.
