I seem to remember someone putting flowmasters on a 350z, and LOSING hp. Now this is only one instance, and I don't remember any of the other circumstances, but it's definately something to look into. That said, flowmasters do sound good.

On another note, I was thinking about this thread last night, and it occured to me that the best sounding exhaust I have ever heard in my entire life, was a chambered exhaust on a 70' Chevelle. It was only ever put on a couple different cars from the factory. I wonder if it would sound good on a sports car. Maybe someone could replace the resonator section with as long a peice of chambered exhaust as possible. Bet it sounds mean as hell.

Flowmast makes the car sound a lot better then just removing the presilencer. My friends are all in "AHHHH" now. If you research this forum, only one showed a lost, and not much, others showed gain. You are only taking away the presilencer and switching out the muffler, nothing else. It sounds so good, not too loud, but loud enough. It has a very deep tone to it as well. I was skeptical at first, but after I put it on, it was well worth it.

Just order the Flowmaster 80 series, take resonator out, replace w/ a straight pipe. Let the exhaust company do the rest.

Price:

Flowmaster 80; retail for $100-$150

Labor for installing the Flowmaster and removing the resonator/presilencer; Should be under $100, cost me an even $100 b/c I went to a very high reputiable exhaust shop. It should only take 2 hours of labor time total

They simply replace your muffler, put your tips back on, and replace your resonator w/ a straight pipe. Everything looks the same from the outside and even up close, but it sounds far more supperiour than the stocks.

thats not a bad price at all; i'm getting this done definetly; but not for a couple of days because of this crazy azz winter storm going on now. I can't wait to do this. Next i'll do the grounding kit or whatever. WELL AFTER DOING THIS IF I GET THE NEW ECU CHIP FROM NISMO WILL I GAIN HP FROM THE FREERER FLOWING EXAUST? beause that would be sweet if I could gain some power on top of the good sound.

-thanks a million for sharing your advice!!!

Does anyone have any sound clips of this? Sounds like a good plan.

Thumbs down

flow master design. Many baffles, internal obstructions, turbulence. The flow master has reportedly lost HP for some cars, or no change in others. Tests show that gains for the flow master are the lowest in the industry. Look at the design...this muffler is designed with ONE thing in mind... sound. Ive read many good things about magnaflow gains, and I had one on my 300zx.. sounded PERFECT.... keep in mind though, it really isnt "worth" it to use these hacked on type mufflers as far as performance. Magnaflow, being at the top for gains, give about 5hp for restricted cars. The Z is not restricted at all, and I think that the only exhaust solution for this car is cat back or nothing. my 2c...

Default video of flowmaster

I removed the pre-muffler and added a Flowmaster. Here is a couple of clips letting you hear how this turned out. I love it.

I think its the same thing; look under your car; i did; there is the exhaust tips, then muffler, then piping to the resonator; then y-pipe to cats or somethin like that. Am I right someone?

Thumbs up

I had Midas Muffler ($20.00) circumsize the Z this morning. Sounds great. But only until I install the Stillen.

I would suggest this as a low cost way of deepening the sound.
What have you got to loose except 7 pounds?
