Default Sound Clip w/out Resonator -- Stillen is on its way

So, I read a lot of feedback on removing the resonator, both positive and negative. I decided to take a risk and try it (only a $40 mod). Well, it has been a few days now since I removed the resonator and I don't like the sound at all despite the performance increase (minimal). I ordered the Stillen SS exhaust on 2/14. I'll post a clip of how it sounds, but in the meantime, here is a clip of my Z without the resonator:

Thumbs down THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!

I am glad I didn't do this. I would NOT have liked the sound at all.

I am sure tohers might, but I wouldn't.

Thank You again!

Yup, can't wait for the Stillen Exhaust to arrive so I can get rid of that ricey sound.

Plus I should get a significant improvement in performance with the Stillen exhaust. Nothing that will "throw you back into your seat', but definitely an increase in HP and TQ.

Default The wonders of the web...

We share info, sound clips, pictures... I wonder if a car has ever been introduced this way! As a society of enthusiasts we have all the possible info we would need. It is amazing.

I just got my CD with the shop manuals.

When I went to my dealer, I had been here a couple of weeks. Of course, I knew 1000 times more about the options than they did!

As the aftermarket items continue to flow, those of us "less adventurerous" appreciate those of you "early adopters" for sharing your experiences and results. I for one love to see rims ON the car, so I can really see what they might look like. Catalog pages with a million rims on them do nothing for me. They all look the same on there!

THat's a pretty accurate sound from what I experienced. Do you also notice the droning sound in the cabin under part throttle cruise?

In all fairness, it isn't as bad when the car is actually in gear under normal accelaration. It doesn't sound "as bad". Actually, I hear very little drone sound in the cabin. With all of this said though, I still don't like it and can't wait for the Stillen Exhaust to arrive!

the drone must have been from my combo of no resonator + flowmaster. It went away when the resonator was reinstalled though

Thumbs down Thanks for the sound clip

I don’t like the sound of that. Thanks for the sound clip. I don’t think that I will be doing that. It…, I don’t know, makes the car sound cheap. I hope that someone post a sound clip of the Stillen exhausted system.

I hope it gets in by this Friday so that I can put it on Saturday. Believe me, I'll post another clip as soon as the Stillen exhaust is on!

Ok, here is another clip without the resonator while accelerating. This was taken the same night (I forgot that I shot this clip)

No Resonator while accelarating

Sounds better when it's in gear, but still want the Stillen!

This actually sounds a little better than the other one. Windows must be up.

Lets hope you are right. I want the Stillen exhaust, but the fact is that we have yet to see a dyno, and no exhaust tested shows gains in top end without losing midrange grunt.

It would suck to lose midrange in exchange for a few measly ponys top end.

If Stillen really has a worthwhile product It will be on my car too.
good luck!

Bummer -- I just got off the phone with Stillen and they said it would probably be a week before they ship out the exhaust. I'll keep everyone updated with the results and sound clip of the exhaust once I get it.

Default Resonator = Presilencer?

Thanks for posting that too, excellent work. One question, are you guys calling the pre-silencer the resonator?

yes. pre-silencer is such a british word.

In my mind, a resonator shapes the exhaust sound, the muffler quiets it.
