Default Squeaky Pulley Belt

I just put in a KJR pulley and the belts are squeaky. They only squeak wen i take off in 1st gear from around 900-1100 rpm. After that there is no squeak. I did a search and found out most ppl got rid of their squeaking by tightening the belts. I tried tightening mine but the squeak is still there. Should i get new belts or try belt conditioner? Thanks.

they are not tight enough. Do not spray anything on the belts

How much tighter can it be? Should they be tightened to the point that the belts are not twistable?

don't crank it too much.. just increase the tension abit. If you're not sure, adjust it a few times til the squeak is gone..

Steve from Corner3 told me that tightening it past factory specs (which is what i need to do to get rid of the squeaking) will put added stress on the bearings (forgot which ones...maybe the accessory pulleys) and cause them to fail. Anyone heard of this problem?

yes he is right - but there is no way it is tight enough, as that is a stock sized pulley and uses a stock sizes belt. Either you did not tighten it sufficiently (measured by the up and down deflection of the belt as you press down on it - consult the factory service manual for this spec), or your belts are worn and need to be replaced with new ones

I saw the belts during the pulley install and they looked fine. I only have 16000 miles on my car as well so i dont think the belts would be worn yet. Maybe he was being too conservative about the tension? Could it be that the alluminum pulley is too smooth for the belt to get a grip of? That is what Steve thought.

good be - these cars seem to be really finicky about belt tension. I know Kwame struggled with his for a long time on his 03, but ultimate got it. Just make small changes and you should be ok. At 16k, your stock belts should definitely have been ok

start with the simple stuff - measure the amount you can push each belt down at the center between the pullies, then compare that to what the factory says it should be. Adjust as needed. Let us know how you make out
