Default Take it to the dealer

you don't want to do this at any shop.... the dealer has special equipment to do it... it only costs like 99 bucks....

Its VERY easy to do it yourself. You only need about 1 quart (you use regular Dexron III ATF per nissan. About $2 a quart). Get the car in the air and remove the bottom tray. Remove the lower line to the PS cooler and let it pour out. Fill up the resevoir to the top. Start the car for about 5 seconds. Refill the bottle and restart the car. Turn the steering wheel lock to lock about 5 times and top off to the fill line and you're good to go.

It says "For Canada, Nissan ATF Dexron III/Mercon or equivalent ATF may also be used."

Why Canada?

I guess I'd probably buy the genuine nissan stuff...

Why did you say don't use PSF??

Maybe he meant to say "don't use brake fluid".

No --I screwed up ---I swore that it specifically said Dextron---I would have always prefered to use clear PS fluid---

It does say DEXRON *may* be used, but I wonder why they say "For CANADA"

OK this one is from a 2002 service manual. Now I understand what they mean by "for canada"

Summary: it looks like you can use: Nissan PSF, Nissan PSF II, DEXRON, MERCON, Canadian Nissan ATF

Sometimes Synthetics are a little tough on certain types of seals ---Course this isnt as important as Engine oil or tranny fluid (In the Tranny !!!!)

I recommend contacting amsoil and asking them if their ATF is equivalent to DEXRON III / MERCON. Or just use the nissan stuff.

Well as I said --its just not that big of a deal ---Iv been using the Dex for 50,000 miles. Had a friend in Fla that had an old Saab --PS leaked like crazy and he was crazy ( Yonkers NY ) He just carried water in a jug and used that. It lasted over a year.
