Default NA and higher octane.....

I was wondering has anyone with a few bolt on mods and a tunable computer tried tuning with a higher octane?

Im asking because in Chicago we have available high octane gas, I have jwt intake, injen catback, test pipes, headers (not installed yet), and a Utec, and im wondering if it would be worth it to drop maybe 100 octane in and get it tuned to see what I get from it.

So has anyone tried this yet with similar NA mods?

So far I've tried getting about 8 gallons of 100 octane, and filling up with 91 to make it about 95 octane...

Then I've advanced timing 2 degrees with cipher, and reset the fuel maps.

The car seemed to like it. The powerband felt (subjectively) a lot smoother.

I'm sure with a good tune higher octane maps would be awesome.

hmmm....I can also get 110 from my local go kart race shop. 5 gal. 40bucks....

The thing is I would also have to get the mixture right every time if I had it tuned to a certain octane.

Well not necessarily, as long as you have some margin of safety... i.e. tune for 96 octane while putting 99 octane (plus or minus 2 octane) mixture...

something along those lines.

110 is pretty high, plus thats leaded so you must have test pipes or else it'll ruin your cats.

I would definitely stay around 100, you will not detonate with straight 100 octane in your tank. Plus its safe, unleaded.

Yes, I like 100 octane because it is readily available at a local "76" station. If you check around, you should be able to find a 76 station near you with 100 unleaaded

Last time I pumped 100 octane they had it at $6.6x. It is so much cheaper to buy them in 5 gallon containers.

Where do you buy arin?

Even though it may be cheaper to buy in barrels, you can't beat the convenience of 100 at the pump Hauling around 20 gallons of flammable **** in my car doesn't sound like fun

I bought race gas in the 5 gallon containers two years ago from my buddy who had a shop. I guess he was a authorized dealer for 76.

Now, the only option I have is to pump the 100 octane at 76 in pasadena or pump at the race track.

Technosquare claims an additional 8-10hp, on top of the 8-10hp they claim for their base ECU reflash, when the ECU is flashed for 100 octane. The ECU in my racecar was tuned by them for 100octane, have not dynoed the car to see what it does with the ECU and my mods, but it definately is a lot faster that it was before with all the changes.

You can, but it also reduces the life of your o2 sensors, namely the first 2, if you have non foulers on the 2 in your test pipes they should be ok. o2 sensors are expensive. Your better off with 100 octane in an NA car, the gains will be very marginable from 100-110 with the 350Z.
