Angry 06 auto hesitation problem!

I have an 06 auto. 6K miles on it. when i'm at speeds of only 20-37mph and i floor it, it hesitates and then it goes. the tach will slowly go up for a few 1000rpms and then it will shoot up quickly like normal. anything above 40mph it downshifts fine and it goes. can anyone with an auto duplicate this? it's annoying cause i usually cruise at around 55-60mph and when i slow down to around 20-40 when someone in front of me makes a right I like to floor it. it works fine in manumatic mode though of course since i'm picking how far i want to downshift. thinkin about taking it to the dealer but was wondering if anyone else had this problem and what others think it could be?

I have this too but I don't think it is a "problem." It does hesitate a little bit... if you have a pop-charger, you can hear it suck in a great deal of air before it takes off. I don't really know as to why this is but my theory is that it helps to give a smoother acceleration, since keeping it in D means you want to use the automatic to shift smoothly for you. When in manumatic mode, it might have itself ready for any hard acceleration you give it and take off.

At least, that's how it is for me. It's noticeable but not annoying so I live with it. No complaints here.

This is normal for A/T Zs. Not any different than any other A/T cars/trucks when you floor it.

Default Is your Traction Control Off?

I have a 5AT. The TCS will cause a hesitation.

you will always get a hesitation with an auto if you leave it in drive... cause the car is attempting to figure out what gear it should be in when you gun it. if you use the manumatic mode and just drop it in the appropriate gear you will immediately take off. well thats how it is with my 04.

There's a reason A/T is sometimes called "slush box"
I bought M/T for throttle response above all other reasons

Yes auto transmission have a process to find out exactly what gear your in at what mph to determine what gear to downshift into. It works in conjunction with the speedometer, speed sensor, tps sensor, gear selector sensor, and ecu.

All I know is my 2000 maxima had a sh1tty auto transmission.

It would shift all over the place...

I had to drive it semi-stick to get it to shift where I wanted.

Like start in 1, then bump it up to 2, then D... to downshift, bump it back down to 2...

Man the Z is so much better

If you haven't already done it, get a engine dampner. I got a stillen engine dampner this weekend and it is gods gift to the Z in regards to shifting characteristics. My shifts are so smooth now, it goes into each gear perfectly. It makes shifting the Z very crisp and precise.

Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly is the engine dampener? Is it like a valve body upgrade? (http://www.stillen.com/product_detail.aspx?sku=453335)?

No, it's very basic. All it does is brace the engine against the frame to keep it from moving too much in its mounts. It's sorta like a "poor man's solid engine mounts" mod (correct me if I'm wrong).

If you have a friend sit in the driver's seat, pop the hood, and then in neutral, rev the engine. You will see how much the engine moves around... it's actually quite a bit of wasted motion.

I dont think the 5AT would benefit as much, there is no clutch engagment causing the engine to move. I agree this is a great mod for the 6speed cars.

It was a PITA to install at a few moments, but it only took an hour. It is a wonderful piece, I think it is the best mod i've installed so far.

Yes its mainly for 6spd cars, I only suggested it because wired 24/7 has a 6spd Z.

It is definitely worth $130 dollars because it does so much. It basically secures the engine even more than the motor mounts do to prevent most of the movement caused by fluctuation of the throttle or any engine movement for that matter.

I will post pics tonight when I get home from work of the installed product.
