Since Brian Crower split up from the father company I know he has K series camshafts dirt cheap, something like ~ $520 for In. and Ex. Stage 2 and they are pretty aggressive street cams for the RSX, but has anyone looked into or is running any of the cams on their VQ?

It says the OEM valvesprings are good with this set so that tells me it may not be the most aggressive set but judging from the lift and duration how would these compare to the pre existing aftermarket?

Thats not a bad deal considering you need 2 more cams and 8 more springs and retainers than the advertised price for the K20. But im wandering if this is new to everyone or if there was anyone that has these cams and what they think of them.

 

What is the lift on the stage 3 cams? At what lift do the pistons have to be notched?

 

Does he have '06 REVUP cams availible??? I doubt it...

 

Rev up cams will eventually be released i assume.

 

I'd be wary as to the engineering/testing of these cams......duration vs. lift, ramp up rates, lobe separation, overlap, etc. What if they're like HKS in taht they have massive duration but low lift? They don't produce squat for power without causing idle issues due to the lack of lift.....and the duration causes overlap issues.

I don't like N-Tech's cams. I don't think he has enough knowledge to properly design a cam....plus his are re-grinds iirc.

I'd look into JWT's. They may not be the cheapest, but you can bet they're the best designed/engineered cams for the VQ that you can get.

 

Chimmike- I think ive seen you on the roads before, I live in Tampa going to USF but im in the bradenton/sarasota area a lot, thats where my parents live and my dad used to drive the Z all the time until he got surgury on his left knee making it hard to work the clutch.

Anyway, I have no experience with these cams but I do know the stage 2 (3/4 Race) are pretty decent for K-Series engines, now I know this is a totally different ball game thats why I ask if anyone has ran these, which cams from JWT are the best for the 287hp engine?

Also off topic a little but can someone help me out on the whole MREV issue, Ive done a ton of searching but got a lot of mixed results, if I were to run the lower plenum with the 5/16 spacer from motordyne, which MREV would be the best for the 287hp, the MREV+ or MREV2?

 

MREV2. I just picked up the MREV2 and the 5/16 spacer on the GB. Sent the ECU to AAM for the reflash and it all works great. Very happy with it!

 

Ok thats what I thought but I heard some people saying to get the MREV+ for the 287hp, well at least we can send in our core for a rebate which is probably what I will do along with the iso thermal 5/16. Now thats out of the way headers, test pipes, and exhaust would be next along with tuning. So with the listed mods above that would leave just cams for NA if not wanting to mod the block.

 

I'd say so. You could always go to the head and do valves. I'd also recommend the JWT clutch and flywheel. One of my favorite mods. The ca revs so much nicer.

 

Yeah thats a good idea, the stock clutch is pretty good for NA especially the heavy pressure plate but the flywheel seems sooo heavy, it must weigh around 20lbs and its wierd coming from driving my RSX with the ACT Prolite 8.1 pound flywheel. Im sure with a lighter flywheel the car's acceleration will pick up dramatically, revs seem to be really slow right now.

 

Stock flywheel is 29 pounds.

 

wow, well that explains it, I think the car needs around an 11 pound flywheel what does the JWT weigh

 

JWT is 14, i have one but not on the car yet as im still waiting on the engine. 14 is a perfect balance. Under 14 they are noisy as hell. JWT also has a wear strip that you can replace when it wears out its 50$. It is a nice looking flywheel.

 

You can also get the Tomei 280/272 duration cams which are more aggressive than the JWT. You can get the Tomei cams upto 11.3 mm lift.

 

Thanks I'll look into those. Whichever cam I can find that is the most aggressive yet streetable is what id be most interested in.

 

HKS does not make Z cams chinmike

on paper these sounds nice, and are ground from new billets to the best of my knowledge - we'll have to see how they test out
