Exclamation Transmission whine

Recently I have been getting this really weird transmission whine when the vehicle is cold and at high speed. Usually its 60mph + when its cold in 5th and 6th gear.

When it warms up, anything above 110mph+ in 6th has the same noise but not as loud.

I understand some transmission whining is normal, but this is a very very high pitch. This is my second transmission, I also have redline fluid in it which helped make it a bit smoother but maybe it caused the noise???

Q45tech, if I take the car in for inspection, will they void my warranty if I have redline fluid instead of stock fluid? I have a 6MT btw.

Thanks

Hmm.. sounds similar to mine. Before I used redline and had whine in 6th. Now I am using motul and there is no whine. Try that out. But I am still on my original tranny. 3 years now and no problems.

Are you sure its not the differential?? My car whines from about 75mph and up. If I get off the gas it stops, but if im on it, it will whine like hell. I took it to performance and another dealer, both said its normal. Did you notice the whine right after you switched to redline??

I have a 2006 base manual trans , I have a loud whine when cold 4th and 5 th gear on aceleration and deceleration. Seems to stop when warm . Sounds like the rear output bushing is running dry, only makes this noise after sitting over night. The reason I think it the output bushing going dry is if I leave my subdivision going down the hill it will allways make the sound but if I head the other way which is up a small hill it rarely makes the noise and if it dose it makes noise it a lower pich noise and goes right away. Sorta pisses me off just 4,000 miles on it and the dealer said oh just leave it here over night,no offer of a loaner or a ride home . Bye the way the dealer is CARMART in burlington WA anyway sound like ill just get the runaround. anyone know if theres a TSB on this prob.

I have a similar whine. It actually started right after i had my fluid drained and redone. It is going to the dealer tuesday for the whine, and a 5th gear grind if you shift qickly after 4K RPMs

I think it is just the fluid. I got new fluid from nissan and it is 75w-80, which is thinner then the manual recommends. I think they are trying to put thinner fluid in the trannies in hope that it helps the issues with them.

I have no idea. I didnt have the time nor the facilities to drain my tranny fluid and put it new. I took it to my mechanic that has done all the work on all of my cars since I started driving. He said that whe he driained the fluid, it had a large amount of metalic flakes floating in it.

+1,00000000000. Its annoying, but it REALLY gets to me on long trips. In a way its a good thing, because if I dont want to hear, I just dont go above 75mph. save gas and dont risk any tickets. It still pisses me off though

The car seems cheap when it makes obscene noises which it shouldn't, and that's what really gets on my nerves. We pay this much for a car that honestly does perform well on a track but when it comes to driveability it lacks in some areas which sucks.

For real. That entire car is almost bulletproof. I love supras for there power and strength, but I personally like the Z lines alittle better. I only wish they would of let a real tranny manufacter make it instead of them doing some guess work....
