I'm now at 1400 miles with the new V2 engine, and I'm a little less than half on the oil stick. Note, I wasn't all the way full when I first got it, so I think all is well so far. I've driven the hell out my Z after the 500 mile breakin, just to see if the damn thing will break again. So far so good. I'll be taking my Z in to the dealer for another oil test, in a week just to keep record. Keep you all posted.

^ Good to hear, I am going to 1200 for break in, and will be checking it every 500 miles. Mine was checked three times and is at the "H" on the coat hanger. Running Castrol GTX 5w-30 dino. Tonights drive about 35 miles freeway and street, it feels much better. My cool down period is over and I believe I am more non critical and just observing the power band. It really does feel like more torque, no longer the front wheel drive feel. I still am seeing the slow rev's. Still too soon. Have a bout 100 miles now, brother has been driving it to work and I drive it afterwards. Goes in tomorrow for the cricket sounds from engine bay, they said it might be belts whistling.

When they replace the long block, does that include the intake manifold (the piece below the lower plenum)?

At this point, I'll take my 100k warranty and move on. My son gets this car in November and I'm moving on to a G37.
What dealer did you go to? Perhaps they will be more lenient with me since they already have a case or two under their belt. My last oil change I'm burning pretty bad, I think more than a qt/1000 miles. Either that, or someone forgot to add the full five quarts of oil!

oh and service manager said 1 or 1 1/2 quart of oil burnning every 3000 miles

is normal since it is "sprots car" ...

so i hope it consumes more than what he said..

Guys its not that simple to just swap for an 07, unless you go through what one of the guys in this thread went through (arbitratino and the whole two bits).

I'm just curious, who has the highest mileage Rev-Up thats having problems? I'm a little over 47k miles now and it seems to be getting pretty bad.

I do not think that amount is normal. Normal would be 0.0 – 0.25 qt per 3k mi

You will not get the same answer from any dealer, and Nissan covered their *** with the owners manual , by stating you will need to add some oil between oil changes. What do they consider to be some?

Complain again, let them know that you know there is known problem with the rings and PCV. Are your exhaust tips black? Let them know the oil is blowing by something. No resolution from dealer then go to NNA and open a case. If that does not work go to BBB and file a complaint against Nissan and that will wake them up for a OC test. With high oil consumption there is definetly a factory defect of some kind. The engine has clearence issues. There should not be any oil loss, if any 0.25 per 3k would be acceptable.

I'm currently going the first oil consumption test on my 5AT G35. I have another 200 miles to go before going in for the 1000 mile test, and it's already down to the L on the dipstick.

Default 350Z-2006 Oil Problems

I had my first oil change done at 1,000 miles.
Now I have 3,000 miles on it.
During these 2,000 miles i am down 7/8 - 1 quart low.

I've been off list for a few months and have a lot of reading to catch up on.
My first question is:
1)If my dealer tells me 1/2 gt. low per 1,000 miles is acceptable, do I find another dealer?
2)When should Nissan North America (NNA) be notified?
3)when should BBB Auto line be contacted?

Any thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

It is my opinion that at 3,500 miles the most oil I should be down is 1/2 guart.

I personally would be very happy if I was burning 1Qt every 3000 miles.

Actually at 3500 miles it will most likely be 1 1/2+ quarts low.
In my opinion not good, unacceptable.

^bro don't feel bad.I'm on motor number 2 and I'm checking it myself for oil consumption before I go back to the dealer.pretty sure its eating 1qt every 1k,I'm at 400 miles and still have 600 miles to go hope they replace this motor as easy as they did the first one, not feeling like having to fight over something like this, but I just want it fixed, love this car and I'm tired of worring about the oil....
p.s. I'm just about to hit the 6000 mile mark on the new motor

Reposting and additional reply:

It does not matter if you consume more than what he said.

The facts:
(1) A new car should not be burning oil at all (after the initial break in) period.
(2) Nissan has committed FRAUD by not letting the buyer know of a known defect prior to purchasing the car. We were not given the opportunity to decide if we wanted to buy the car with its known defect.
(3) We were not given the owners manual until after we purchased the car (which states that some oil will need to be added in between oil changes) which is fraud.

Start throwing out the fraud word and you will see results.

With these three facts, no one should have problems presenting the defective issue and getting an OC test going and/or a new engine from the dealer or Nissan North America.

If you still get push back, then contact the BBB and file a complaint, things will start happening then. Make the effort and push and push before you resort to the BBB. If need be threaten them, by contacting an attorney and/or the BBB. Try to work with the service manager, but you do not have to be nice to NNA.

Hope this helps.

Not good that is about 1.5 qt low, they will probably want two more 1k tests. Start putting the bug in their ear, ask the service mgr if they opened a case up with NNA. If they did not, let him know nicely that you are going to open one up with NNA. Just so it's documented and that NNA is aware of your issue.
