Motor for FD or any RX are easy to come by. Actually motor are cheaper than any other motor. For $2300 you can get a NEW short block.

I was just being sarcastic. It was meant to poke fun at their reliability issues which are "rumoured" to exist.

lol wtf? are you serious? give me a break... if they took like a ford focus turbod motor or a mazda 3 motor and put it in there I would understand, but have a little pride man.

Does anyone know if an LS1 would fit into a Z? I have been thinking about that swap, not that I would actually do it unless the motor blew again and I thought I would have plenty of $$ for custom fabrication... since the VQ fits into the FD, and the FD guys have a lot of LS1 swaps... makes me think it would work. How realistic do you think that is?

A turbo focus motor hahaha, yea i guess your right. i just like the rotary and dont like to see it being replaced by LS1's, SR20s, and the like. but for the amount he got the Z motor for he could have bought a 20B and destroyed anything in its path.

something else I just realized about the VQ in that FD....it has no middle or upper intake manifold yet....I wish them luck trying to fit it under a hood.

Yup. They're probably gonna have to cut a Chris Fosberg style hole in that hood. The VQ is a tall motor.

That's sweet. I bet that wasn't the easiest install, but it looks cool. Pretty big compliment to the 350z crowd IMO.

there's a company that actually has a swap kit for the LSX series engines, so most fabrication can be bypassed...i don't remember who sells it of the top of my head, but yea a nice tuned LS7 cranking out like 650-700 naturally aspired horses in an rx-7 is a something to b feared...damn id give a kidney for one.

I like my Z and not just because the VQ motor is great, but what it represent. When I had my FDs I like what it represneted, something different than everyone else has.

I had 3 FDs, never had any issue with them either. The rumors about FD blowing up is so over rated and I can say that because I owned the car. But the reason I don't have no more is because it does makes you paranoid. I was constantly make sure the temp were okay (I lived in South Carolina at the time) and all that. So don't be disrespecting my opinion when I have some respect for cars and what makes them.
I like the motors but they are short timers..I've owned 1 with 2 motors and both gave me trouble...the 1st one killed itself...due to poor STOCK cooling system with coolant lines that melted and was replaced under warrantee...the second one blew blue smoke at 110k...I sold her to the used car dealership I worked at and haven't owned a REAL sports car until my Z...now I need my Z to catch up to my talon

I agree with that statement (but I did have 220K miles on the original motor in my second FD). I think roataries are better suited for racing than street duties though. Do you know that 80's and early 90's ferraris and Lambo engine only had a life span of about 80k miles?

Was your 220k mile motor NA or a late model RX-7.

The NA rotary will outlive a piston motor...think I better grab my nomex
