I tried to hi-jack someone else thread but it was another of the one hundred sixty seven trans warranty questions threads and basically i guess everyone is ignoring it.

I have a transmission that is fine normally, doesn't grind gears or anything but sometimes it is hard to get into first gear from neutral if i am sitting still, i have a tilton clutch. Usually i can put it in 4th first and then go to 1st and it will go in like normal. Also, sometimes if i go too slow in a gear it will get stuck in it, even if i have the clutch down it will not come out, i have to either force it out or let the clutch out a bit and then push it back down.

Any ideas?

 

Your clutch might be out of adjustment. You should bleed it.

 

I emailed you the pdf file on how to do it. It should help it get into gear.

 

As above ^^^^ Ur not getting complete disingagement, I would bleed first then think about hydraulics. If they are tired, they may suck air rather than leak.

 

Could i get you to try to post that doc again, i can't open it, something about a translator and then it...blah blah, basically it isn't going to read it.

Well i bled the clutch, with an expensive bleeding machine, had some air in the fluid but absolutely none now...STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS.

What next?

 

Thats a common problem for anyone with a stick. I would switch to synthtic fluid and hope for the best. Motul and Redline both have great tranny fluid. I have found that Syn Transmission fluid can help in these situations.

 

since you bleed the clutch lines, id try to change the tranny fluid unless its new. if indeed it is, try to adjust the clutch pedal. maybe its not fully disengaging and thats why its hard to put in. does this only happen when the car is cold or the first 5 min of starting....or its an ongoing thing? mine doest that to sometimes, but only when the car is really really cold, but other than that its fine. this is all the feedback i got from others on forums so i might share it with someone who also need help.

 

I have a stock pile of Redline fluids that i had for my Firebird so i will get that changed and see what happens.


It does it all the time, no matter if it is hot or cold. I have the pedal adjusted, tried going down farther and no diff so i brought it back up. I basically made myself an adjustable stopper, plus...the tilton isn't supposed to go down that far anyhow.

 

Just confirm the Redline is the right GL rating.

 

I'm going to mix mtl and mt90...just did a lot of research on it actually.

 

Does anyone think this could be from a worn out clutch? It shifts fine after i get going, doesn't grind...i made about 5 1/4 miles passes and only missed 2nd once, probably more from being so excited that my launch was good, no grinds or anything. It doesn't slip at all.

I just don't want to throw $50 worth of trans fluid in my tranny if i am just going to have to get it swapped at Nissan.

I can't remember for sure...but is there any distinguishing factor to tell if you have a 009 tranny. I don't think there is but i'm hoping that i am wrong.

 

If you have a worn out clutch, you'll definitely feel it, especially on the track where your shifting faster than usual.

Also, I'd hold off on the transmission fluid if you're getting the tranny swap. And the dealership should give you the CD009 tranny so you shouldn't have to worry about that. Just ask them to double check. Mine's getting installed Monday.

Try taking off in 3rd gear. If the car stalls the clutch is grabing hard and it's fine, if the clutch slips then its going out. I doubt it's your clutch.

 

^^^^^hahahaha, take off in 3rd, yeah right...i can barely take off in 1st without it stalling...if i let it slip for a couple seconds it seems to it seems to slip a lot easier until i let off the pedal completely, but when i do let all the way out it is definitely not slipping.

 

Any clutch or transmission gurus on here that have seen this before or might have any other suggestions?

 

If your not having the problem in all gears (ie. goes into 4th normally, but not first), I dont think its the clutch itself. Sounds like a problem internal to the tranny.

 

Well when i am driving it is fine, it is just getting it into 1st when i am stopped. I have to put it in a higher gear first and then it will go into 1st. If i am slowing down and get to around 5 mph it will drop into 1st with no problem.
