Default Suggestion for new clutch

hey guys....i took my car in for a check up today and the dealer said that my Z need a new clutch along with a pressure plate. I got 40K miles on the car, and haven't change the clutch yet. Anyway i told them to put on the Nismo one, but service manager told me that the Nismo one is really noisy and will make the shifter vibrate pretty bad. He also added that a lot people like it for racing, but too uncomfortable for daily use.

So, i thinking about just getting a stock Nissan part...which quote me at 900 include both parts and labors.

Do you guy have any suggestion for the clutch that is as quiet and maybe perform better than as stock one.

$900 for parts and labor for pressure plate and disc is pretty high considering the price of the parts...

INFLATED list price (above MSRP) for the Pressure Plate and Disc is $371.60here... Which is aboutrite if they are charging you $500 in labor (which is high)...

For install of just a pressure plate and disc you should pay about 4 hours labor... Depending on the shop rate should be between $90-$110 depending on where you go... (if its a DEALERSHIP that is)...

To install a new flywheel as well it should be an extra hour labor tops...

I highly recommend replacing the flywheel at the same time... If you are just replacing with a stock clutch or havent been really hard on the clutch, you may be ok... When swapping the parts, have them check and make sure the spring loaded damper in the clutch is still stiff... Sometimes they get loose and you can move the front of the flywheel while the rear stays still pretty easly... (not good)...

I can get you a stock Pressure Plate and Disc for $215 + Shipping...

You will also want to get a new release bearing and Pilot Bushing (about $35)

Find out how much they are charging for labor... Buy the parts elsewhere (from someplace like me) and just pay the labor to them...

Let me know if you have any other questions and I can help you out with anything you need!

I had a Nismo clutch disc/pressure plate on the stock flywheel. I could hardly notice the difference between it and stock, except for the fact that the stock one was slipping.

ok, got the update...now they said i need a flywheel also. Stock is $1070, nismo is $600. So, for me to change the clutch + pressure plate (clutch cover?) + flywheel is gonna be about $1500-$2000. That's a lot........

Tomorrow i'm gonna ask them how much they charge for labor, then buy the part somewhere else. Anyone suggesting other combination beside Lawn Dart?

Thanks Jason@Riverside, i problaly get part from you. How much you charge for the flywheels?

from what i understand is that lighter flywheel = quicker rev. right? What if i use Nismo flywheel with the stock clutch, is that a good combo.?

I can work out a much better price then that for the OE flywheel...

There are some other options for flywheel though but keep in mind, there will be some added noise with single mass flywheels like the NISMO / JWT / STILLEN / ACT / FIDANZA / EXEDY / ACT etc...

The stock flywheel is a dual mass flywheel that absorbs alot of the drivetrain noise... You can still lightly hear it with the stock, but you definatly hear it at IDLE with other flywheels... Once you are above 2000 RPM (around that depending on flywheel) you do not hear the noise... some people dont mind it... High performance drivers are understanding of the noise...

Drop me a PM with your Zip code and I can get you some pricing on some options for you...

OE Flywheel / OE Pressure Plate and Disc
JWT Flywheel / w/ OE P&D
JWT Flywheel / JWT Clutch
etc etc...
