Default 07 Reving Problems?

On Valentines Day, I drove away in an 07 PPW Touring beauty. Love the car, but tonight I just realized something. When I rev then engine while standing still, as the rpms come down, the needle pauses around 1500 every time!!!! What the hell? I was wondering if anyone else has seen this? Of course I'm hoping as I break it in, it will go away. (I silently hope that this isn't some new feature on the 07s, and I'm showing my flame worthiness).

Had an 04 and don't recall ever noticing that.

Anyway, the car rocks and that's all I have to say about that.

how long is the pause? could be like a launch control if it pauses long enough.

Actually I tested this tonight. In my 07 if i Rev it up as it comes down it pauses for like .01 seconds at 1500rpm... but if I remember correctly it did it in my 03 too. I would be hard pressed to call it a pause, it seems like just a small studder almost.

I remember that as the revs drop to a lower RPM, the needles decreases at a slower rate. Not as abrupt like the way you describe it though. After I hit around 1100 miles, it seems more even. And I swear it drops at 3X's the rate! Did the flywheel lose wieght? ;p

Does ur exhaust gargle at the same time as the pause?

Same thing here. Its hardly a pause but it does look like a studder. Car feels great though.

Ok, well, I'm glad it's not just my car, or that I'm loosing my mind. I'll keep my eye on it and report in a month or so.

I test drove a 2006 Civic Si (yes, with the VTEC) and tried to hit VTEC while standing still but it also limited the revs.

Could be just an ECU thing?

Thats different. We are talking about when the revs are coming back down it studders at 1500 then goes down

I know from some S2000 guys if the engine is cold it won't let you go into vtec.

Mine does but some won't.

Its the engines way of protecting itself.

It's for emissions control. It's not a problem.

My '06 rev up does it too. An ever so slight hesitation at 1500 which by the way is where it idles at when cold and the auto choke releases. Maybe something to do with that or the electronic gas throttle.

First of all, i wouldnt free rev a motor too high or too much, especially on a new motor. Your spinning the motor but not putting any of the normal loads on it. Its better to let the bearings see only the normal forces it is expected to experience throughout its life instead of all sorts of forces. This is even more true on heavily modded cars and FI'ed cars.

I think what your seeing, when the tach is dropping, is just the ECU keeping the car from dropping revs too fast to where it will stall the motor.

1. IIRC, my 2005 Track does this as well. Slight hesitation, then falls to where it should be.
2. I hope your not beating on a brand new motor yet.
3. Was the motor warm? If not, the idle is much higher and the needle will take longer to lower as opposed to its normal idle.
