Default Just changed my oil...

on my 2006 6MT and recovered 4.75 quarts of royal purple. I'm at 8526 miles and still no signs oil consumption for me. Just want to give you guys some proof that not everyone out there with the Rev-up engine has problems. I haven't had a single problem with the car, no tranny issues or anything. Lets just say the only thing it needs is some new rubber on the back. HAHA.

What oil filters are you guys using. I'm using a FRAM filter, but it's not the one recommended for the Z, it's a lot bigger in length. Also what oils are you guys using? I have this theory concerning poor oils and small filters...

.... Why does everyone feel compelled to share when they don't burn oil?

That's awesome your car is working normally... that doesn't change the fact there are a bunch of other people that need to feed their cars oil on a weekly basis for normal driving. :P

Well...why not? It's good to hear that not all the cars are affected. No one is trying to upset you here.

I'm not trying to deny that there is a problem with the rev-ups consuming oil, I don't doubt some of you guys do have a real concern here that must be dealt with weekly. I'm trying to possibly find a common thread among those who do experience problems and those who don't.

I think part of the problem is the filter recommended for our VQ is too small for the size(3.5l) and capacity (5qts) of our engine. I also think different brands of oil make affect the problem as well, either helping to eliminate or exacerbate the oil consumption.

I also believe there is inherent flaw with the Rev-up, that under certain combinations as I've mentioned above, produces the problem in varying degrees of severity(amount of oil consumed) as I have seen stated by different members on here.

We must obviously concluded that either certain filter and oil combinations can and will prevent any oil consumption whatsoever, or that at least some of the Rev-ups are not built with the inherent flaw that makes them susceptible. Either way it's good news for all of us in hopes that our re-sale values won't plummet and that not all of us will be as unfortunate to have to endure the hassle of constantly checking and filling oil levels and possibly replacing the engine.

Sorry for the long post but I would really like to get to the bottom of this and figure out what's going on here. If some Z owners who are currently experiencing oil consumption problems would like to try running the same combination as me (Royal purple with the large FRAM filter) and let me know if you notice any improvement or increase in consumption. If anyone else has already tried this without positive results, please let me know as well. I've read through some of the threads on here with people experiencing consumption while running royal purple but they don't mention what oil filter. That's one thing people need to start mentioning as well when posting reported problems. All feedback will be much appreciated.

Thanks, James

I always park in the same spot before checking the oil for consistency sake.
I always let it set over night before checking it so all the oil can drip back into the pan.
I pull the TARD dipstick out, wipe it off, then stick it back in, wait a few secs, then pull it back out (that sounds funny). Then I get a pretty clear reading that is comparable to the last reading I took.
I haven't had the oil analyzed yet (blackstone?) since so far there isn't a problem (hope that doesn't upset anyone).

my 06' only consumes oil when i put it through an extended heat cycle. like 20 minutes of racing basically, auto-x's and going up through the dragon. other than that it loses no oil.

Just curious, what is the manufacture date of your car.
I am in an oil consumption test now. Dealer uses Pennzoil I believe, and OEM filter. Thanks.

Hey XuperXero. Next time you change your oil try using a larger filter and see if that affects your oil consumption. As far as the manufacture date on my vehicle, I will have to check that next time i'm by my car... (in school right now).
