2004 & CD009 Tranny Question
Just dropped off my 2004 -Z- to get my #5 tranny.
Service manager said that the CD009 tranny was listed as a replacement for the 2003 year AND that the 2004 year was listed as needing a DIFFERENT tranny. I did not get the code.
Since I insisted on the CD009 tranny, he said he'd have to call Nissan and get it approved (under warranty).
Anyone experience this ????

Apparently Nissan is trying to use-up their stockpile of 006's, 007's, and 008's transmissions.
YOU MUST ASK FOR THE CD009 !!!!! or they will try to give you one of the earlier models.
The service manager said my 2004 calls for the CD008.......and in small print it also says he can accomodate the customer with a CD009 if they ask for it.

Yeah, I lost my damn invoice... Any way to tell by looking at the tranny itself? When did the 009 become available?
I haven't had any problems with mine since the replacement, but I tend to baby the tranny. It's pretty notchy when cold (normal, I hear) going into second, so I really baby it until it warms up and then it's fine (I'm running Royal Purple in it, too). Thing is, I'm afraid my 4 years is about up (even though I only have 28k miles), so if this one goes, looks like I'll be buying my own tanny... how much are they???

I've gotta CD-008 last January, and couldn't get a CD-009. The tranny was buttery smooth for the first month. Then it's back to notchiness, clunking, and gear grinding at random times (I grind at least once every day... it just gets stuck, and grinds if I force it in).
It really kills the fun driving the Z since I have a hard time shifting with all the clunking and whatnot. I literally have to granny shift for it to be happy. The clutch engagement is also funky so I'm having an even harder time driving smooth.

I called them and they asked what the problem was, I said "it likes to grind 5th and 6th gears when shifting from 4th to 5th, 4th to 6th, and 5th to 6th, especially when cold, and especialy 4th to 6th." They replied "Ok bring it in we'll have a tech drive it with you in the car to see if we can reproduce it." Tech drove it, drove the car like an old grandma and didn't reproduce it. He asked me to drive it, I didn't drive it like a grandma and reproduced it - he thought I wasn't pushing the clutch in all the way, so I let him watch my foot as I shifted, and it did it again. So he said "I'd like a second opinion on this, so lets let my service manager take a look." So we talked with the service manger, he suggested bringing the car in late Friday night and leaving the car overnight, then driving it early in the morning when it would be cold. So we did that, he drove it, he reproduced the grind and said they would replace it under warranty. We setup an appointment to get it replaced, I go there that day, they took the car for 2 days and gave me a rental car for free for that time. Came back and checked the papers it was a CD009 and they replaced the clutch (they said their dealer information from nissan said that on the first tranny replacement they should also replace the clutch). End of story...
My new one still grinds in the 1st to 2nd gear shift sometimes when cold (no grind on down shift from any gear)... but I just replaced the oil in it with Motul Motylgear (I had gear 300 in it before, which worked well when the car was warm (no grinds when warm at all, and no notchyness either) but not so great when cold, so I switched to the Motylgear after 10,000 miles of gear 300) and it helps alot with cold grind, it's only done it to me once sense I switched it out (1,500 miles so far) and works well when warm too (almost no notchyness, but still a little bit sometimes - I can live with that though it's griding that bothers me). I will note that the gear 300 looked brand new when I drained it out of the tranny - not dark at all and no debris in it.

Yeah, I figured I could prob do that, but I guess I'd rather not know. Besides, from the above account, it doesn't look like the 009 is perfect, either... Mine acts exactly like that, so I'll just tell myself I have a 009 and can't do anything about it and sleep better at night. LOL
