Default Removing Timing Cover

I am undergoing my cam install..

Now I came to the point where I have to take the timing cover off the engine.. and wondering if there is any easy way or tips that might help me out.

I basically tried to open it up by hammering a screw driver into the two notches on the top side of it, but they are sitting too tight and i cant seem to separate them. I made sure I removed all the bolts from the front.. and the two bolts inside the oil pan - one long bolt and one short bolt.

spent 6 hours to come to this point, and I am going to continue tomorrow..

I am going to try a slide puller tomorrow, hopefully it will do the job..

any tips ?

that rtv is tough stuff!

just figure out a way to pry it open.

I peel off all the excess RTV and get 5 fine tip flat head screw to a little thicker screw drivers and hammer it between the two covers where the notches are. Once lodge the screw drivers in the nothes be sure to slowly and work the rest loose on the top half of the cover while keeping the two screw drivers lodged. The fine tip screw driver won't damage the timing cover if you go slowly. Once the top is broken loose you can pry it off with minimal force. Good luck.

there is a special tool we use for doing this. if you have a Grainger near you they will most likely have one.

Thanks for the tips guys, got it off with some screw drivers and a rubber mallet..

now I came across another problem, the bolt that holds exhaust pulleys on both sides are done up REAL tight and i cant undo it even with 90psi impact wrench wouldnt make its way through.. the intake pully bolt came out easily though. and my adjustable wrench was slipping with lots of force with hand, so I went out and bought a 24mm wrench.. gotta try again tomorrow, maybe i should get someone to help me out..

Is there any issues with this bolt? its not reverse threaded or anything is it?

bent two spanners, and finally got the bolts out now i am swapping valve springs.. what a pain to do, i wonder if I will get enough clearance for the back ones..

Post a picture of your valve puller and I will tell you

If it doesnt fit I will sell you one that does.

BTW what your is your car?? If its a 03 could you post pictures of the back sides of the intake cam sprockets?

my car is 02, my car is jdm one and they launched z33 in 02. will take the pictures soon.. i've done the front four cylinders, now gotta do the rear two. i probably will have to come up with some other method to do the exhaust ones cuz the tool i am using will not fit in there

here we go. what did you want to know about this anyway? also, what is ur tool like.. I am in New Zealand so I don't think its very time efficient to buy a tool directly from you but if I can get the idea of how your tool works, I might be able to find a work around.. or buy a similar one from local shops?

took me long enough but finally got all the springs done.. now the fun part begins, putting all the parts together with new cams

let's see some pics of your valve spring compressor. I was looin g for one for awhile. I found the nissan tool, and it was almost $400.

I bought a valve lock tool from Snap-on instaed for about $40.

that tool fits down in the vlave spring pockets? it looks too big.
