As stated in the title, im having difficulties engaging into 5th gear at low speeds. Im wondering if this is the same for the rest of you guys. To be more specific with this issue, I need to speed up to approximately 80-100 km/hr to get into gear from 4th. Also, when driving at a constant low speeds (approximately 60), I can not enter into 5th. I feel heavy restriction when I attempt to get into this gear. I did a search prior to this post to see if this issue has came up in the past, but it didnt seem as if this is not a preceding problem for the rest of the Z owners....can someone comment on this or provide me with some useful information.

I have a 2003 350Z with 65,000Km...so if this is something that needs to be covered by warranty..I may very well have to take it into the dealership

any help would be great!

I've seen at least 3 thread topics in the past 2 days about this problem.. & you searched?

Anyway, I have an 03 that just rolled over 65K miles to, crappy feeling looking down at 65000,but I have trouble getting into 5th, well not trouble, it seems to slightly grind a few times during a day of driving, I mean a slight slight grind, but enough to worry me.. but I think the guys said its probably the tranny, 65K , most likely is. Get yours checked out if it's that much of a prob.

My ride is good for now, but I know I'll need a tranny fix later.

Had the exact same problem with my 03. 5 gear would grind every time when I had the clutch fully depressed. Pretty soon my 3rd gear was doing the same thing and what happens? 3rd gear synchro gives out, out of no where. Turns out I had to replace the whole tranny. Hopefully yours isn't that extreme because isn't the power-train warranty near the 65k mark?

 

ive had this same problem and my gears would grind when going into 5th. i was covered by warranty and they replaced my tranny, and now i have a problem going into 2nd. it feels like a crunch or a little stiffness, so i guess i need to go back for another check up..

 

Have a new tranny put in, problem solved. I had this problem a while ago.
