the flywheel is what causes the noise.

every lightweight flywheel will increase the chatter. the STOCK setup chatters ever so much.

the heavier the flywheel (nismo, jwt, act street) the less the chatter.

The gear rollover noise is present even with the heavy stock dual mass flywheel.... if noises bother you, you shouldn't be making performance modifications... to each their own.

This noise is pretty bad in my 07 base model 350z, they have already replaced my transmission once and it still makes the noise. The dealership told me the input shaft story and I think I am th only one getting the shaft here, along with a few thousand other Z owners. It's a problem for me mainly because I believe it will hurt the long term life of the engine. The peices making the noise are connected to the crankshaft and will throw it out of balance. I think the other gentlmen was right about the slack in the gears but that still does not excuse Nissan from tranfering that energy to another place other than my micropolished crankshaft. That why race cars have harmonic balancers. The only that bother me about the slack in the gears theory is the fact that the noise gets worse for most people as the clutch heats up, the noise even changes my Idle and all these dealerships keep telling me it's normal. I think I will post the noise on you tube and I encourage others to do the same, we can't let them run us like this. The clear coat on my new 07 is also nonexsistant in some places, I know this because in certain places that I wash my car including but not limited to the rockers panels; I get color on the rag and that should impossible if their is a good coat of clear on the car. Besides these few flaws that Nissan will hopefully own up too, I think it's one of the greatest cars ever built and will become a japanese work of art, that will be admired and reveared for years to come.

I have a JWT clutch and the ACT prolite flywheel and it is quieter than my stock flywheel was.

Quick question, does your chatter stop when you press the clutch? Mine chatters like crazy until I clutch in.. :P

Mine does the same--bone stock '07 clutch & flywheel. I wouldn't say, "like crazy," but it's noticeable for sure with the windows down that when I engage the clutch, it's almost completely eliminates the chatter that's there.

Although no Z, my ACT HDSS chatters like a **** on my Evo... sure it does the same on the Z.

My stocker on my old Z definitely chattered.

That is the problem that I am having right now. I think it's from the throw out bearing myself. When I am in neutral, it sounds like a marble being bounced around inside my transmission. When I depress the clutch (i.e. pushing the TOB up into the pressure plate), it goes away. Only happens when the clutch is not depressed and I'm sitting still. Driving, the only rattle I get is from the rear diff, which needs to be lubed by now anyway.

? does the chattering affect the motor negatively , I have a CM stage 3and flywheel chatters between 1300 and 1800 rpms does switching to redline mt90 help the noise when its in nuetral

JWT clutch and JWT lighten flywheel and mine chatters only when I am below 2400 rpm.

well I am know on the third transmission from nissan, it still sounds horrible at idle once it warms up, my dealership told me they would have me drop it of when the nissan engineer was in town which was supposed to be the week of the twenty seventh, and see if he could fix it, the service director promised he would call, that week, he never called! I called him on friday when he barked at me saying "I don't know the engineers itineary, I call you when he is around and hung up on me", the I went to another Nissan dealership to get my oil changed, the mechanic was nice and let me under the car in the shop when I noticed bits of melted rubber splattered all over the undercarriage. On closer inspection I found the rubber boot under the shift linkage hanging down all torn to peices laying over the driveshaft.. The guy changing the oil, zipped tied it back up and told me I should go back to my dealership and have them fix it. Well I did, and when the mechanic came out to get my car, he got in and revved the motor and dropped the clutch chirping the wheels. So then the mechanic calls me over because he can't find what torn boot I am talking about. I point it out, and he says oh, that O.k. Then he proceeds to bark at me saying " I can't be under the car for insurance reasons, fine, whatever I walk out and go have a ciggy. Turns out they still had not shipped one of the other transmissions they had replaced so the took the boot off of that one. The mechanic returned the car to me in the parking lot with his greasy gloves on, leaving grease on my steering wheel. This same dealership has also gouged/scrapped two rims now, and claimed to have had nothing to do with it. I would take it to another dealership, but other dealerships have told me they will not touch other dealerships warranty work, so I am stuck with windsor Nissan of new jersey in regards to anyhting that goes wrong with this transmission or clutch that still to this day make the noise, worse than ever. Now on Nissans side: I am sure not all are like this, I am sure I am just having a bad experience, But between the engine noise, exsessive paint chipping, and a pleathera of other new noises and defects I a find every other day, I can't say I am having a good time. If anyone in new Jersey, Delaware or pennsylvania know any good Nissan dealerships or Z33 specialist please let me know. I love the car and do not want to lemon it, but I can't live with a brand new 2007 thirty thousand dollar car that sounds like Deisal helicopter at idle are a little normal driving. Well I just had to get it out this whole thing is driving me crazy, I still gotta admit for the price it's and amazing car, and it's beautiful

damn my car does the same thing. it makes like KAKAKAKAKA noise. annoys the hell out of me. i just hope its the throw out bearing.

I have a competiton CLutches light weight flywheel and stage 2 clutch. very hard to get use to due to the new clutch, but other than hat, the chatter at idle is barely noticable. it stops when ever you press in the clutch and effected my idle slightly, nothing a tune wont fix. I do however also have a load shurnning noise between 1.2k and 1.8k in all gears full and partial throttle. Im going to check the gear box oil and all that good stuff, it drives very very well, so i cant think anything is massively wrong with it.

I loved the feel and response of my JWT but the chatter got annoying. I ended-up going to a hevier oil and it is much better now, and pretty much only chatters even it gets really hot (long drives heat up the oil and thin it out slightly) and if the revs from take-offs starts below 1500. Just be careful when choosing a heavier oil because the tranny uses brass syncros and most synthetics use a modifier that damages them.
