First off I never thought I would be making one of these threads. I have used search but found a million other related subjects and titles but none mentioning this problem.
I'm the type of person where if something is broken I take it apart, see how it works and fix it. To be honest I just came home from a long day of work and im just to lazy to take the shifter assembly apart. Now that I got that off my chest onto the problem!
I get into my car today and proceed to back out of my driveway. I push the shift **** down and get it into reverse. When I go to shift into first gear I notice that the shaft does not pop back up. It just remains sunken down making it harder to shift into gears. If I grab the **** and pull up it will go back into normal position but any downward force will sink it back down.
I replaced the shifter with a short throw unit about a year ago and have had zero problems up until today. I don't remember if there was a spring or not when I did the install which would pop the shifter up when pressed down. It seems like that would be the problem but im not sure. Another thought would be that the shifter cup is broken but it does not feel like it (could be wrong).
Anyone with similar issue or could shed some light on the subject to help a fellow Z member out?
Thanks!
BTW - Its a rouge short throw unit which uses a factory shift cup (looks almost identical to stock).

It sounds like the spring to reset the shifter **** to the up position has jammed or broke. Since the shifter cup rests on the top part of the spring, it could also be part of the problem. Either way, it looks like it has to come out to see what the problem is.
Good luck
