Where is the best place to put the sensor?

Thats what I use for my fuel pressure gauge sensor. Make sure you use some good gasket/sealant, though, and make sure it is fuel/oil resistant sealant.

is there a cheaper solution? I have already spliced into the fuel line for the FMU. Could I just T it in?

Don't see why it wouldn't work. By the way, I have the same Autometer Nexus gauges as you, plus an oil press (no oil press gauge on the G35) and fuel press. I really like them.

man finding all the fittings for this is a beotch. Maybe i'll just throw down the $80+ for the AAM adapter

EDIT - ok I just found the 5/16 barbs for the auroquip in-line pressure gage adapter. The whole setup should cost me under $15
