Would you get an ECU if there was a Core Exchange?

.... would you be more likely to purchase an ECU upgrade if there was a Core Exchange? the only catch is... the anti-theft immobilizer code, will be disabled.
why? well in order to have the 'new' ecu programmed with your own immobilizer code, specific to your car, you need to send in your ECU anyways, which defeats the point of a core swap.... that's the only way they can re-learn the immoblizer code to your specific key/car... BUT the down time would be Zero, you'd just be charged a deposit until your ecu is sent in....
so if people are willing to drive around in the Z w/o an immoblizer, then yes, core swapping will be available... this also means, you can use that neat-o Nismo silver key or make your own switchblade key or something like that...
whats your thoughts? please answer the poll...

I'll do your ECU deal once say...10 people get it and no cars have problems.
If it becomes 'proven to work and not screw the car up' I'll drive to LA fork over the dough no problems.
simple. I mean..I'd hate to drive to LA, pay 600 bucks and then like...the car wont restart.
so I'm waiting.

I would prefer a group buy for flashing. Also, you might check out the serial numbers on the ecu.See if the numbers need to match for warranty work???Just a thought.Regards,Tom

Ideal premium deal. (extra charge for service)
What about if customer pays for upgrade plus a premium service charge plus the deposit on a ECU swap unit, customer receives swap unit, fits to car then sends own unit in for reflashing, unit is returned to customer, customer refits own ECU and then returns the swap unit for refund of deposit ( could be credit card, like hotels use in case you destroy the room ).
Customer has very little down time plus retains the anti-theft immobilizer code.
This is a method I would be very interested in, as I'm located in Australia and this would mean I won't be without the car for 2 - 3 weeks.
This method is not ment for all but for those who would'nt mind paying the premium charge for the convenience and service.

I would if I knew more about what it does and doesn't do because I have a perimieter readar alarm Alpine SEC 150R
But does it raise the rev limiter at all so we don't have to worry about hitting the dang thing we all know when to shift, or does it adress Torque Management, or what about FI.
What exactly can it do for a 1/4 mile/ daily driver FI car?

I too would be interested in the core swap program but like another post I am out of the country. If you had a loaner program for an ecu while ours was being flashed I think it would be great!!

Well. we have a few options..
one is a loaner ECU program, in which the end customer (you potentials) will pay a deposit and all the shipping charges.
1. Technos sends you loaner
2. you install loaner and send in your ecu
3. your ecu is flashed and sent back
4. you send the loaner ecu back.
now if we all want this done in a timely matter, since, hypothetically there are only a few loaner ECUs, the customer would have to fed ex everything and the charges would probably over come the cost of a 1 day economy car rental...
cuz you can send the ECU via FedEx with the after hours program they have, and it will be received next day at 10am, it gets sent out pretty much the same day, and you'll receive it the following morning before 10... so if you just rent a car for 1 whole day, that price ~$30-50 would probably be cheaper than sending the loaner ECU back and forth.
the out of the country would be hard, too since that extends the time frame for delivery..
the 'extra' charge to retain your immoblizer code with this swap, would generally be a good idea, but i just want to make the ECU upgrade cost effective.. that 100bucks or so you spend on swapping you could just spend on other mods, or save that up for a raining day...
kozik: the ECU has been installed in ~9 cars so far...
drop ins are good too, then they can explain the process to you so you dont have to worry....
Keep Posting your Thoughts!
the immobilzer i think is a good thing to keep still, just because its common sense. the car is still valuable and mean-spirited people might try to steal it (knock on wood)

i dont realy mind the down time, i do have 2 cars.(just a little inconvience shareing with the wife.) but it would be nice to see the price come down for a little while!(hint"group buy" hint! ) you just say those 2 words, and watch how many of us get it reflashed! i just feel that $600 may be a little steep! i do realize that the r&d that went into this mod was incrediable, but i think they would have sold ALOT more than 9 by now if the price were $450-$500??? just my 2 cents!
Obviously, TS isn't getting the orders they thought they would be getting. I don't think the reason is down time, I think it's price. Unlike any hard product, once the R&D was done ever $600 pop is pure profit. Seems way out of line to me. The R&D was for computer mapping, not fabbing hard parts.
I would really like to do this mod, but I am sure that we will be seeing it in the $400 range soon enough. I don't want to be the chump that paid $600.
I know Dwnshift endorses this product, but he stated 3.5 seconds per lap???? From only 10hp???? Hmmmmmm???????? Something doesn't seem right there. You have to supercharge an S2K with 100 more hp to get it 3.5sec per lap on a 90sec track.

Have to agree with raceboy, the $$$ are a bit too steep, especially if I have to ship my ECU right across the globe to maintain the imobiliser.
I know a lot of work went into the code, but if its too dear others will eventually copy it/re-engineer it etc and then where are you ?
You have already made the investment - its now about what you want back and how quickly. Is it better to have a big slice of a huge market ( with a cost effective product ) or just be another "expensive" ECU upgrade.
Of course it's your business decision - you did the work !

I will purchase an ecu upgrade for my G35 coupe when:
1. you have identified the proper tuning for specific mods and combinations of mods...ie exhaust; exhaust and intake or supercharger and exhaust.
2. Your prices become reasonable
Thanks for all your work....
your almost there

Think of it this way. Say it cost $10,000 to do the ECU mapping and tune (I am sure that is more than generous). Once they sell 17 of them, they have recouped all of their costs. Now it is all pure profit in the till.
If you want to buy it go ahead. No one is stopping you. People will buy anything (I think that to myself everytime I see someone driving a Pontiac Aztec.)
600 isn't unreasonable. They are the only game in town. Be lucky they aren't charging 1,000.

I take this thread is in reponse to me declining your request for a free ECU?

First of all, you conveniently leave out a lot of info. You inquired of me if I would be willing to help at a track day for the TS ECU, or at least give my input. I said sure, no problem. I never asked for a FREE ECU as you say, I asked for a deal in return for my help. If you think that is out of line then I don't know what to say to you, and I think it was a real cheap shot for you to post that here and you know it.
I asked for the deal because the price, quite frankly, is insane!! How is it that for the Honda's, you can get the Hondata for about $250 and that includes the ECU??
When companies respond to scrutiny in this manner, it has to really make you wonder what they are really about. If the product is that good, it will stand up, if not it won't.
The research bucks certainly need to be recouped and its not unreasonable to expect a reward for a significant effort.
We arn't being forced to buy, but it does seem a bit expensive when other cars ECU's mods are taken into account.
However it is your work, but my thought is that the current cost makes it an attractive mod for competitors to tackle in the longer run. Perhaps consider the cost/volume issue ? After all if you have the market and the cost is reasonable, then whats the incentive for others to under cut you ? - nuf said from me.
