Default CEL and with it some problems :(

Yesterday, my engine threw a CEL. The mods on my car are the ones in my signature.

Background on the car: The CEL was always on ever since I got my TPs. Just recently I got some tuning work done on my car. I will share the results for this in an upcoming thread next week, look for it in the HR section (its not finished yet)

I picked up the car Saturday morning, and drove it around all day. It was running better than ever. Some of the features of the tune were 8k rev limiter (which makes me very lenient to slamming the gas lol ) And timing adjustments.

Around 7 pm, it threw a CEL. When the CEL came on, the sound of the exhaust changed a lot, and became raspier and slightly higher pitched. This is how it was before the tune, exact same sound.

So i pulled over, pulled the battery and that got rid of the CEL. Now, the car is running a bit strange. Im getting like 16 mpg ? Before I was getting around 26. It also sputters and chokes sometimes when im on it hard. I wont be driving it until I change the oil tomorrow. (its due for a change anyway)

I went to autozone this morning to check the code but it showed cleared ? No codes came up.

Any idea as to why this is?

It sounds like you have a air leak at the test pipe / header interface.

Air leaks there cause a significant decrease in MPG.

Your O2 sensors see the extra oxygen in the exhaust and tell the ECU you are running lean. The ECU then dumps in extra fuel to correct a problem that didn't exist in the first place.

And your MPG goes down accordingly.
