I just wanted to know from other people... how their clutch engagement felt? I mean, where about does it engage for you, when you are starting off? The only other MT cars I have driven were Hondas and VW's, and they seemed to have a pretty low engagement point (just a few inches of movement after you start to raise the clutch pedal from the floor)
My transmission feels different... and I want to make sure that I am not improperly clutching this car! Right now, I have to lift up a good 5-6 inches before I can get it going in 1st gear.
Is this normal?

I asked the same question when I first got my Z in January. The answer is your Fu*king up. Ha, Ha, just kidding. The cutch does engage further out then what you are used to. I used to have 2000 Toyota Celica GT-S and that clutch would start to engage as soon as it was released. Once you get used to the Z you will find that you can shift extremely smoothly. So you are not doing anything wrong, enjoy your Z!!
Personally my clutch position feels perfect. Your's could be out of adjustment but as long as you're not grinding gears then it's probably OK. The S4 I had also caught pretty high.
According to the manual, the clutch pedal height at engagement/release should be 3.94". That measurement is from the floor board (NO CARPET) to the middle of the pedal pad.
If you want I can email you the clutch section of the SM. PM me with your address.
