I got my engine replaced in my 06 due to the oil consumption problems. I have a about 1300 miles on the new engine and im down a quart and a half in that time. Is this normal due to setting seals and so on or is this engine no good also?

see i dident think it was normal either. iv wasted so much time haveing to take the car to have it checked every time i was low on oil and now its all over again. Does any one know what motor they replace the old one with. Is it a motor that they fixed the problem on or is it one that they put in and hope it doesent do the same thing?

 

I would take it back and have them put in a VQ35HR bro.

 

If you plan on keeping the car, just build the long block. I wouldn't recommend swapping out v1 with v2 with v3 etc...

The design 'feature' of the revup seems to be a weaker second set of rings (for fuel economy). The weak rings seem to allow blowback on decel. That's where you're getting OC from...

 

OP what did you do for your engine break in period? Did you keep it under 4k the whole time or did you drive it like it should be driven? Just curious. When I had mine replaced (G35) I drove it nice for about 100 miles and then I gradually started opening her up more. I am seeing no OC issues with my V2 now.

 

I had oil consumption, just built the block easier than dealing w/ the BS

Yeah, I'm getting a little OC myself, not too bad (1/4qt per 1000 miles), but I'm just gonna build the longblock with quality components and do some cool performance stuff and be done with it.

 

although rebuilding the block is a good idea for fixing the OC issues associated with the VQ failure, it's not practical for many people.....nor is it satisfying knowing that you pay $$$ for this car and issues like this occur. If I were out of warranty then yes, I would build the block, but since mine was an 06 with ~15k on it when I started testing I demand that Nissan corrects the issue.

 

I had less than 10K miles on a brand new car, it all depends on your overall goal

 

Don't feel bad... Posche Cayman's, boxter's, and 911's have similar problems... And those are $$$ to work on & replace... Has something to do with the cylinders being horizontal, and not getting very good oil supply on startup when it's been sitting awhile. So the rings tend to wear prematurely on startup because of the orientation of the cylinders.

 

No i havent had it above 4k sense I got it back. Thats hurt the most LOL. I would do the block but like twin said it sucks paying all that money for a car and have the engine be no good! Plus i paid cash for the thing so it sucked most of my $!

 

and i wouldent mind it so bad if it was just 1/4 or so every 1000 but a quart or more sucks and it adds up after time!

 

also i forgot to mention if it makes any differance. im getting a real bad burning smell every time i drive the car!

 

My V2 did the same thing. It was bad during the break in process. Then it got better then it got worse again. Im at 9k miles and it consumes nearly 1 quart ever 1000-1200 miles.
