Question DOES VQ have over 500 bhp potential?

Well, here is a question I have been pondering. Does the VQ35 engine have more than 500 horsepower potential? Here is the reasoning behind my question. In the JGTC(Japanese GT Champioonship) series in Japan, all of the Skylines no longer use the RB26DETT engine. In fact, they have swapped them all out for VQ engines. The displacement is even smaller than the Z's at 3.0 liters. The teams running the Skylines all run 3.0 liter turbo charged VQ30 engines. One Skyline even set a course record with this setup in the GT500 class(cars developing 500 horses). So, if a smaller displacement turbocharged VQ engine can develop 500 horsepower or more, why can't the 350z engine have the same potential?

I think so because Hot Version Vol 59 showed the 350Z that tuned to 500HP!!
I think it was tuned by Mines

If you curious why don't you get the DVD at ebay and see what kind of Tuning they have done to reach 500HP

Hope this helps

Cheers

It's because of better balance or something, and of course even a D17 on a new civic is capable of 500hp... in a full race application.

Top Secret's Z is currently (or was a while ago) at 540HP crank and snapping rods like nobody's business.

Stock rods, not upgraded rods, correct?

This is what I'm understanding.

If you're wanting big power, I would figure its a premise to put stronger rods in.

You'd bend a rod once and then swap them out for a full race spec application.

Don't believe everything you hear!

You are correct, good sir.

Mid 500's seems to be breaking point on stock rods. A good new set of rods and pistons would probably get you 100-200 hp higher IMO if you go FI and really wail on the boost.

Right now, on stock rods, 400hp crank seems to be a good compromise of reliability and power.

We could also be looking at what has been rumored will be used in the new R35 GTR next year ... a 3.0 liter TT.
