coin compartment heat
I just got back from driving for around 30 minutes, just normal driving.
i normally place my cell phone in the coin compartment right in front of the shifter. when i pulled my phone out, it was hot! and i mean hot...
upon further inspection, i noticed that the coins in there were hot to the touch as well. hot enough to be painful if you held them for 2-3 seconds.
this seems to be an unusual amount of heat coming from there.
any thoughts on what this could be?

Sounds like normal tranny heat to me. That, combined with Texas heat. Did you do any long term or aggressive driving? This will cause the temps to soar also. I swapped out my tranny fluid with Redline synthetic and noticed better shifting when the tranny reached higher temps, due to aggressive driving. That's probably a different topic though...
I suppose you could be right, it just felt different than anything i'd felt before. And when you drive your car a bunch like we do, you tend to notice "differences" when they occur.
This was a normal 15 mile trip to dropoff my g/f and head back home, so no performance driving there.
I have 60,000 on the car, and at 40,000 I swapped to Amsoil for the transmission.
