Sure why not. They're both DE motors (I believe they have different ECU's and harnesses though depending on rev up or non rev up not 100% sure)

Wanna be cool? Put a HR in it!

It is not a direct swap physically it will fit, but there are additional cam sensors on the rev-up motors that your 03 doesnt have so to make them work a new wire harness and different ecu would be required. Stick with an 03-04 motor.

Just plug a big block 454 in it. You may need to alter everything about the just a little bit but it would be soooo worth it.

thanks for all the quick replies...
so just to clear a few things up
i can fit a 2005 35th anniversary into my 2003 car and about the ECU and wire harness i can use the one from the same car/engine 2005?

would rebuilding be less expensive?

thanks,

Jose

Yes all the parts from the same car will work if you swap engine, ecu, harness from the 05 it would work. The question is why? It would be easier to get another 03-04 engine unless, I am assuming you already have the 05 with the parts.

For the money that you're going to spend, it's not that much better. Plus, you'll never have it togetheras well as the factory built it. I vote no, but that's just me.

It will work fine with no problems. As others have stated you will need the engine harness and ecu for the motor. You can't run a rev-up on a 03 DE without those parts.

so to purchase a whole new engine with harness and ecu you'll be out more than getting a built motor for your car. The 05 motor will also be stock so it will have less hp than the built motor.

dollar for dollar it's a waste to swap to the rev up over having a built motor.

what problems are you having with your oil?

have you talked to the dealership? i thought oil consumption was an issue they replaced the motor for.

i still think you'll have more fun with a built motor unless you want to put a stock motor back in and spend more money.

I would imagine, unless he's the origonal owner, his 03 probably has too many miles to "qualify" for an oil consumption replacement from the dealer. I.E. there's got to be limitations at which the dealer can legaly say "that's normal for suich high miles". It's obviously not, but i'm sure Nissan gives them the right to say that at some point. Otherwise everyone would have "oil consumption" when they want a new motor.

I've heard of some 03's having consumption issues, but nothing compared to the revup owners. This sounds pretty extreme though if the OP has next to no oil left after 3,000 miles! My other concern would be, why is the OP letting it get to that point without adding any oil? Just because you have oil consumption issues, doesn't mean you can't add oil as needed to make sure you don't furthur damage you engine. I have a feeling if he was riding around with next to no oil, it's only gonna be a matter of time until something catastrophic happens.

OP.....FYI, i'm FI, and i have 66,000 miles on my 2003. When i drain the oil, it appears like i loose MAYBE a half a quart over 3,000 miles. That's based on putting my used oil back into the empty oil jugs. So that doesn't account for what oil that may be left in the oil filter and still clinging to engine parts. So it may be more like a 1/4 of a quart or less.
So yeah, having no oil @ 3,000 miles definatly isn't normal! lol

Most likely not. It's like someone buying something from you and calling you 6 years later asking for a free exchange.
