Default Traction control question

If the clutch is slipping will the TCS slip light illuminate?

No. Traction Control intervenes when it sees a difference in wheel speed. If the clutch is slipping all the wheels will still be turning at the same rate.

Not sure what the clutch has to do with rear tires slipping. But Anything is possible.

If you are riding it, which is what i think David is talking about, yeah. Once fully engaged, you should be able to floor it, and not have any clutch slippage.

Could be the fronts, too, as they would light the SLIP light if they were spinning differently as well. Found this out myself on Sunday!

Why would front tires be spinning on a rear wheel drive car?

If the toe gets knocked out on one wheel it will spin differently than the one opposed to it, which will trigger the SLIP light.

was actually referring to your comment of learning to drive a stick.

So under no circumstamces would the slip light come on if the clutch only was slipping? I just bought my second 350z, this one is supercharged and the slip light comes on sometimes just when the powerband kicks in. I don't feel the tires slipping, i'm going about 60 mph at the time.

your slip light is coming on because your tires are losing traction; even if you don't "feel" them doing it. has nothing to do with the clutch. please read your owner's manual; mainly the section on traction control and vehicle dynamic control. in case you don't have one:

On slippery surfaces such as wet asphalt roads, vehicle wheels may spin when the vehicle is accelerated. This wheel spin reduces acceleration, or causes the vehicle to swerve, thus decreasing vehicle stability. When the vehicle drive wheels begin to spin, the traction control system (TCS) controls the engine torque using an electronic control system, and it also controls automatic control shifting if necessary (for automatic transmission models). This reduces spinning of the drive wheels, and result in improved vehicle acceleration performance. It also improves the vehicle stability by swerving motion. When the traction control system is operating, the slip indicator light in the meter panel blinks. If the slip indicator light blinks, the vehicle is under slippery conditions. Be sure to drive carefully. See “Slip indicator light” and “Traction control system (TCS) off indicator light” in the “2. Instruments and controls” section.
Indicator light
If a malfunction occurs in the traction control system, the SLIP and indicator lights
come on in the meter panel. As long as these indicator lights are on, the traction control function (except the ABS) is
canceled. The vehicle will behaves like a model without the traction control system.

I am new to the 350z and I have a used 2005 model and I noticed that I only see the slip light from the VDC turn on when I am making a turn. If I am driving in a straight line and lose some traction, the car will correct it but I don't see the actual "slip" light...maybe the VDC only handles the cornering while normal TC just senses tire rotations

Are you on stock tires and rims? There is a tire calculation link somwhere on here (search). Punch in your numbers. If the front and rear are more then 3% (I believe) off from each other, what you are describing will happen. If they are way off it will happen even when going straight.

I have the stock 18" V1 touring rims but aftermarket tires although they are the exact same size as stock (225F/245R).

my vdc seems to work fine when too hot in turns but what I was saying was that in straight line traction loss the car will stabilize but I don't see an actual "slip"message like I do in turns that's all
