Basic Horsepower
I have a stock Z at the moment. I want to do small things to it to get the most HP for the least amount of money...Aside from the obvious stuff like intake and racing chip...what else can be done?

Sorry, Nismo exhaust only ($847), but the high flow cat story is here: https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....threadid=42922

There is an ECU upgrade available through http://www.strictlyz.com
But never heard of any "racing chip".

The long awaited results are in. First off we need to use this as a learning tool. I don't want to debate the accuracy of the dyno (dyno pac) just show the gains using the same dyno. I know this dyno sucks and will join the So.Cal Dyno day and get some real numbers later. As I said, this will show what some of the mod will do for our cars. So here goes.
Bone Stock with 40 miles on the odometer:
Peak was at 6000rpm 232hp and 227.1 tq
Next was CAI, Headers and Cams. No exhaust mods at all past the headers:
Peak was at 5500rpm 249hp and 237.7 tq
Last we added the High Flow Cat's and Nismo Exhaust:
Peak was at 6500rpm 268hp and 252.2 tq

By installing the things in the order that he did, he kept moving the bottleneck farther down the line. At the time that he replaced his exhaust, that was the bottleneck, but only because he had installed other stuff to promote flow from front to back.
If you take a stock Z and replace the exhaust you won't see what he did out of it.

Add headers / cams / intake / or not... you remove the cats or replace stock cats with high flow cats, even leaving the OEM cat back exaust on the car will open it up alot.
Z32 is an older car... it had less restrictions when it came to emisions... there were already free flowing cats...
the cats that come stock on the Z...
well...
you ever take a straw that you drink soda out of... take the paper off of it and roll it up into a ball and stuff it up into the straw... and then blow? it takes force to push the air through the straw with the paper in there...
with the cats on there, that is what your exaust system is doing... atleast on cars today meeting the strict emissions requrements...
now remove the cat / put high flow cats on... your looking at 10-15RWHP easly...

Then why is the emisions systems (cats / mufflers) the first thing removed on a car to be made for racing?
heck.. nmight as well leave all that **** on if it does nothing for horse power gains.
then the people in the pits wont have to wear ear protection and spectators will beable to hear their wives ***** at them about not being alowed to have another hot dog...

on the above. My argument is that high flow cats dont do much of anything. And.... I said myself that test pipes help with hp. Of course a car will be faster without a cat or muffler...
fine...
see you in the rear view
hehehehehehehehehe
in cali our emissions are soo strict... that if they smell your car... then your pretty much screwed...
so high cats are the only option for some...

How is the Technos ECU Upgrade? I haven't been keeping up to speed on the ECU situation recently. I am looking to get a CAI, Plenum, and Nismo Exhaust.. wondering if the ECU is worthwhile at this point also.
