Default How often you guys change your synt. motor oil?

Just wonder how many miles do you guys change your synthetic oil? I am near 3K and debating if I wanna change it. I hear some say every 3000,5000 or 7500. What do you guys think? Please don't tell me to use the search I am tired from work and lazy LOL

I change mine every 3000 miles just to make sure, but i think you can ride it out at least 5k if you wanted to. The first time you change your oil, its best to change it soon. Mine had a few metal threads inside the oil because the engine was new.

If you are using full synthetic, then you can really go every 5000-7000 miles without doing any damage to your engine. I change mine roughly every 3000 miles, if I can't do it the weekend that I want to, it doesn't hurt waiting until the next available time, even if I put on another few hundred miles. If you are always running full synthetic, you have that leisure. Lastly, always remember, once you go full synthetic, dont ever go back to regular formulated oil! Just my 2 cents.

Default oil change synthetic

No problem to change every 6000-7000 miles. There are some good sites that show the virtues of synthetic. I use mobil 1 5w-30. My gas mileage has improved a bit....Double your change intervals is a good rule of thumb on synthetic...

My switch to mobil 1 came at 7500 miles. My oil change intervals are anywhere from 3750 - 4500 miles.

There is a debate but I wanted to make sure that my rings properly seated before putting in synthetic.

I also called several Infiniti mechanics as to why the manual doesn't recommend synthetics. They mostly said that Nissan uses silicon gaskets and over time can be diminished by the synthetic oil. Oh well, I went synthetic anyways.

Thumbs up Amsoil 10W-30

Based on many recommendations from friends who have been running Amsoil for years, I am using their 10W-30 full synthetic and their filter as well.

I also got some great assistance via email from one of their applications engineers, who helped me pick the perfect product for my engine, driving style, and geographical area.

The bottom line: they specify changing Amsoil 10W-30 every 25,000 miles. I switched to this stuff last April at about 7000 miles (well broken in), and now I'm at over 21,000 and haven't touched it. The oil is still perfectly clean and clear. The filter is to be changed every 25k or 6 months so I'm going to do that this weekend and I'll probably chicken out and change the oil as well.

Flame on, but this is the real deal. It's expensive (~8 bucks a quart) but the interval makes it worth it.

Wow, that is both scary and quite cool. I think I'll wait to see reports from more users before pulling the trigger.

It's nothing new. In fact AMSOIL was the FIRST synthetic motor oil. They've been around forever.

The right stuff for the 350Z:

I do 500 miles on dino oil, change it for more dyno oil, do another 1000 miles, and then change it for synthetic every 3k after that.

IMO do 1000 miles on dino before going to synthetic. I just do it my way on recommendation and it's never failed me.

Every 3k miles using Mobil 1 5w-30. It gets black due to my hard driving. I may start changing oil every 2.5k miles.

This was my schedule (at least from what I remember)

1500
3000 (changed to Mobil 1)
6000
10000
15000
20000
25000

I'll be changing every 5K (still about once every three months).

I use Mobile 1 5W-30, changed at 4700 miles. I will change oil and filter at 5000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first, unless I do a lot of just in-town driving, then I will change at 3-4000 miles.
