Default My dads car needs a new transmission, can anyone throw me some advice?

Okay, first of all my dads car is a 2006 ALTIMA SE-R. I know its not a 350, but Figured I'd post here because of the engine thats in the car and to try and see if anyone on here knows anything about it.

He is having problems with his transmission and the dealer said it needs to be replaced. The quoted him 3800$ installed without fluids. I think thats asking him nicely to bend over.

Now, anyone have experience with this car and know if any other transmission can mount up without serious mods or any other cheaper alternatives? Maybe if your local any junk yards I can check? i'm pretty sure that he has the vq35de in there, but could be mistaken? I haven't really tooled around with his car but I know its a 350 motor, might be the HR. As of right now he has a 5 speed automatic with the tip-tronic, hes an old man that likes to go fast, so if anyone has some input on to how to save him some cash, Ill take some advice. Thanks guys (and girls?)

Find a used trans and have a transmission shop install it, or have the one in the car rebuilt. Of course the dealer is gonna rape you.

check junk yards....you just might get lucky.

also car-part.com to see if there is anything local. you just might find another one..

then install it yourself.. I bet the part is really 1k and the rest is labor..
